No, it's open lapping / trackday like the mustang club etc.

Ha does it cost to watch?
In the past at NSS it has been free to spectate.
Can we run stock cars? lol
Edit: Is this a drift event?
Tracking a car in factory/stock form is the best starting point IMO. As a beginner/novice tracking a modified car increasing the learning curve. This is not a drift event, it is an HPDE.
Anyone else from this forum participating as a driver?

I'll be there Shooting everyone! From 300m away. :P
And I'd love to enter my Audi. But really, If I messed something up the cost to fix it would be stupid.... lol
I was hoping to pick up an old E30 like a 325IS and enter it but I'll just be there for photography.

Messed something up??? I'v done seven track days in three cars without an incident. Proper maintenance/prep prior to the event goes a long way.
Regardless, I look forward to your shots.

Yea I understand but it's the "If" factor considering I just got the car and 1st payment isn't due untill Feb 4th. lol
Now if I can a cheap car I'd be all over this. I really plan on picking something up.
We'll just have to see

No worries, just nudging. Different insurance policies vary for this sort of thing. Mine consider it driver's education (which it is) until the event is timed. From there I'm on my own. The general rule of thumb is always, "If you can't afford to wad it up, don't track it." Which is some insight into why Honda's tend to lap Porsche's on track.

hmm ... tempting ... gotta see what my school schedule will be like, since we start next week
and jose, my stock 240 was out at the MCMC track day and it was just fine - its not a race, so horsepower doesnt matter

As I stated earlier, bone stock cars are the best way to start. Most of our cars' limits are well beyond our driving limits even in stock trim. I'm looking forward to several people coming out and simply attending/enjoying the event. My hope is the weather will be decent. Anyone want to bring a grille? ha!
Jose-Aka-Pedro
01-08-2010, 12:36 PM
Will there be another event? Like in Feb, or march etc.... I WILL race in the next one....
I'll pick up another car so I am worry free.
coolhandluke
01-08-2010, 04:37 PM
Just to clear any confusion it the future, this is a driver education event (HPDE) and not racing etc.
:steps off soap box:
Sadly NSS doesn't see alot events throughout the year. A mustang group generally hosts an event in April and September. This is a TracksUnlimited event so hopefully they will do another event later in the year as well.

I haven't had the budget to stash spare parts for a while now. Checked last night and the pads are of sufficent depth, fluid level was a bit low in the reservoir.

I'm not familiar with your car or driving habits, but I like to keep a pads with me at the track just in case. This will be my third event on my pads and they have about 3,000 of street miles on them as well. I still have plenty of pad left, but I drive a Honda. They are easy on pads.

Yeah, I normally like to keep some spares. I've been really happy with the Miata as far as consumables go, it's very easy on everything. Probably because it's so slow!
I made a set of autozone pads last for 2 days and about 3 hours on track back when i had the Sentra. :)
hey what time is this thing gonna start and end?
If everything goes according to schedule, gates open at 7:30, and the track will be hot from 8:30 to 4:30.
so what are all you guys going out there in car wise?
I've got a blue miata:

That thing is clean man. Makes me want a miata, they seem like loads of fun and little up keep for how hard you can run them. as upposed to a turbo car of any kind.

Just to be clear on this....it's a HPDE (high performance driving event).
So there won't be any sort of competition?
Is this gonna be people driving around cones on a race track?
When I first saw "track day", I figured it would be racing or at the very least, a timed autocross.
Can some one clarify this? I want a mental image of what this event is gonna entail.
Is it......drivers going around the track in groups but keeping there distance?
Is it drivers going through a plotted out course with cones one at a time?
Anybody have a youtube link of a similar event?
Don't mean to be a bother, I just want to know if it would be worth it to me to take off work and come watch.
venom_5
01-22-2010, 10:18 AM
most track days are considered HPDEs .... its not a track made of cones like an AutoX, it uses the road course design at the Nashville Superspeedway [entering and exiting via the pit road, but following the red line]:
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/4632/mediafk.jpg
most organizations do 3-4 groups of 8-10 drivers, each group gets a few minutes at a time to do several laps around the track, then the next group goes on ... so on and so forth until each group has had a few chances throughout the day ... its pretty fun to watch, but NSS doesnt have the best areas to watch from - the bleachers facing the front section show a good view of the highest speed passes, but as far as watching the cars actually handle youll have to stand at the fence somewhere
in other news, i cant go cuz of work, but apparently one of my professors is bringing his BMW 2002 out there ... wish i could go just to see that ... hes a cool guy, and its a pretty nice car

This is exactly what you can expect on a HPDE track day at NSS. This is last year, POV from my car. There aren't any other cars around, because I left early and got in line first, but normally you will have cars in front of and behind you, and you are allowed to point-pass only in the Intermediate and Advanced groups. You will have one warmup lap, then the flag will drop and it's go time.

I showed up at about 7:30 :) I was the guy working at the grid, and running during the "blue" run group. From what I remember seeing on track with me, there were two black Z06 corvettes, both Scion Tcs, the one multi-colored SN95 mustang, the white '99ish mustang, and a couple integras.
I know, right?! O so if you were a driver you also had cone duty? Like autocross?
Folks that volunteered to work got a couple sessions of track time as payment. Paying drivers don't have to do any work.

Wynn, I do plan to get the Miata out (even though I will be pointing everyone by) eventually. I just want a couple things fixed (ties rods, ball joints for example) before I get out there. If I had on Saturday, I wouldve snapped a couple things lol. Maybe next time I will get out there ;)

Off the cuff guess, I'd say minimum $3K and up from there depending on what color you start with and do you want the jams/underhood to match.

You are kind of comparing apples to oranges. I hesitated to post those times as I previously already said that I didn't run video this weekend. There was a guy timing me with a stop watch. However, I'll be back at Nashville March 27-28, you are more than welcome to come out and time me or, if I don't have a student for a session, ride along with me. If not, I'll def. have video for you :D
My time is really not that fast of a time. Mark Daddio ran a 0:59 something in practice and there were several guys running low 1 min times. Sharif actually ran a 1:07.5(finishing 3 of 6), I was there too. :) Not taking anything away from Sharif as he is a good driver and ran much faster than me at the event, but he didn't do that well at Nashville IMO. That being said, Sharif ran a 2:00 on the full course at VIR in October when we were there for the NASA event... which is retarded fast. Of course, Philip Gabrow ran a 1:59 to edge him out. He was running modified class at Nashville so he was limited to a mid grade tire. I also think it was his first time to drive Nashville. Brian(Fastech, the guy who posted above me) ran a 1:10 in his 350z in STOCK RWD... that's on street tires with very basic mods. I have a feeling that Brian was running faster times this past weekend than he did in July, especially with the cooler air... once again... on street tires. Brian is a much much better driver than me.
That being said, I hit the track hard this summer and put 4300 track miles(40+ events) on my car since I took a 15 month break(08-09) and ran probably 30 more track days in between redline time attack and last saturday which helped to shake the rust off as well as progress my driving significantly. I was also on hoosier slicks.
Out of curiosity, what car were you driving and what group?

Out of curiosity, what car were you driving and what group?
I was corner working all morning and driving after lunch. My car was the silverstone S2000 with black wheels. I ran in a bunch of different groups since I was a worker. I ran with you on 2 separate sessions. The first time your dad must have been driving because I passed you guys fairly quickly. The second time you were ahead of me and I got caught up in traffic. Once I got through I was able to slowly gain, but never passed because the session was over. Your dad may have been driving on both occasions because if you are running 1:07's I would have never seen you except when you were lapping me  I also ran with you at Red Line Time Attack on Saturday. I didn't compete on Sunday though. My fastest recorded time at NSS is a 1:13.05 (all motor s2k, 198whp, ~3k lbs. with me in it, street tires - Dunlop Direzza Star Specs). What was your time at RTA?
Brent, your speed increase between RTA and last Saturday was quite noticable! Rust suitably shaken.... I can certainly believe 1:07's! Good work.
I agree. You were definitely quicker at this event than RTA.

These events are purely for fun and practice. Just get out to one and you'll see. There are always several novices that has never been on track before. You will learn more about car control in one day than probably your whole life in driving on the street. It's the best "mod" you can buy imo.

Wish you could have made it out, Moody. I think Autosports Events is hosting one in March. I don't know if I'll make that one unless they need corner workers because I'm running Road Atlanta with NASA on the 13th-14th that month. Want to go to RA?

I was ran a 1:13(they have me down as a 1:14 on the website I think). I had an incident at barber about a month before where I had hit the wall(in a different RX-7) and I don't think I had fully gotten my legs back underneath by then. My car with me in it weighs in at 2800lbs, roughly 300rwhp. I run TTS with NASA, so my power to weight has to be 8.7:1 I was on Z1 Starspecs as well that prob. had around 10 or so track days on them. Best street tire I've ran!
Hey Brent, this is from IA summer '09:

Any time man. I'm not all that fast though. Still learning a lot. I've only been tracking a car for the past 8 months.

That day at RTA my best was a 1:14 also. It was my 3rd time on the track.
2800lbs, 300whp sounds like a lot of fun! I think the Star Specs are the best bang for the buck street tire. I'd like to get a set of RE-11's but they cost too much. I don't think I'm ready to jump to r-comps just yet. I'd like to clean up my driving first. Also, everything gets really expensive with race tires since it puts so much stress on all the car's components. I plan on doing a few NASA events this year to get my feet wet, and it will be nice to watch the races. I like how NASA has their HPDE's set up between the races.

What class are you gonna run in?
I am going to run Advanced.
Wish you could have made it out, Moody. I think Autosports Events is hosting one in March. I don't know if I'll make that one unless they need corner workers because I'm running Road Atlanta with NASA on the 13th-14th that month. Want to go to RA?
I would love to do RA... I don't know if I can get the time to haul my car down there, run, and drive back to TN right now, though. I'm having to even budget time to even go out to the garage and start the car just to let it run, lol. I'll know more in the next month, as far as having money to haul out of state, run, etc...

The Sti is mine, coil overs going on this week with a host of other mods so camber up front will be increased (stock now). I will be running the VIR GTR event with Sharif on Feb 22nd so the car is being prepped for that. Rear sways, harness, suede sparco wheel, 255 fuel pump, rear diff cover, breaded break lines with Hawk pads and splitter. That was a fun event on the 23rd, looking forward to the next!! It was nice to pass Wynn, not easy to do!!

Beat my time during RTA by 2.3sec during the Tracks Unlimited event, running a 1:18.074 (RTA time was 1:20.352).
The Black Stock powered Scion tC since I sold my turbo kit. When I'm back on boost we will see what I can muster out then. Should be back on boost this summer.
Should be at the 3/6/10 event.

Ha...which one? You still got to beat the old time first. If you click faster than 1:18 then that would only make me run faster. Got to get over your Achilles Heel (turn 6/7).

I actually plan on running this time. I'm excited about it, Plan on running the audi.
Only things I think I'll have done are Susp. H&R coilover system. I'll be playing a lot with the damping and height level.
I also plan on grabbing a GoPro HD so I'll have good video and if anyone else would be willing I'll stick it in their cars too.
