hey man i am about to have my 302 redone. how much did they charge you to do you block. also did you have to have your crankshaft done? i am looking to do almost the same exact setup so I will be asking you many questions if you don't mind lol

ya man ask any questions you want
my machine work(block) was done by blue ribbon racing on 2nd ave in nashville
the block prepped/cleaned/bored .030/honed/decked/freeze plugs & cam bearings installed/pistons/new wristpins/rods attached to pistons
lifter bores honed and thats all i can think of that all ran me $800
my crank checked out so luckily i didnt have to have anything done
from what ive seen that is kind of high in price but the quality of there work is incredible
not to mention they had all that done(including ordering pistons) in around a week
heads= tristatecylinderhead.com gt-40p-thay basically come built(oversized valves,5 angle valve job etc)-$550

yes i still plan to spray the piss out of this motor

and no the 306 is for my fox not the v6 drop top
im lookin into a procharger for it tho :]

sweet. im not really into fords too much, but i always love a fresh motor build. (noob-to-big-engines question here: does 306 mean its just a bored 302? cause i know ford built a 302 but ive never heard of a 306) anyway, nice motor im sure it will rip. and im loving that valve cover too haha

05-16-2008, 12:02 PM
Yeah, its a modified 302-based engine. Usually increased bore and decreased stroke I believe :?

sprayN306
05-16-2008, 06:26 PM
actually its just a 302 bored .030 makes it a 306
a 331 is the motor thats bored .030 over
and the stroke is redused

and yes that 800 included the pistons
it was 400 something for just them
so thats half of my cost right there
im wanting to say a crank polish from there was
50ish...but dont hold me to that

So last night i was driving in lebanon
and i was at the four way stop at demos and cici's pizza(if your familar with lebanon)
i turned left(sideways) running around 4k rpm
when the motor started screamin metal to metal screechs
then locked up
i rolled it into cicis pizza and check it out
it would not turn over at all even tryed roll starting
i let it sit for an hour or so
and it started up but screeched still
so i think(more like know) it locked up a bearing somewhere
so for now the 306 is screwed
dunno why it happened: it had oil, it wasn't running hot, and it wasn't over reved
so ima have to tear it down
ill keep yall posted
how does sprayN331 sound?? lol

p.s. no i was not spraying when it locked up

but still i know ull make the 331 blow peoples shit of the road 8)

331 for boost...347 for spray. Either way you will have a kick ass setup.

o god i know
my plan is to pull the motor saturday
dissassemble it sunday and check the extent of the damage
if its just cam bearings ill have new ones pressed in monday
if the damage is worse than that(rods/pistons/etc) then im buying a d.s.s. 331 kit
but i really see NO WAY i damaged any of the rotating assembly
im just worried about my cam being fucked and gouged to hell :/

OK so i took the motor out of my car saturday
hour and a half a personal record
but anyways i started tearing it down today
here is some pics

when it was on the tire
(i don't put it on a stand til a get the heads off cause of weight on a shitty stand)

http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r39/Slidewayz89/0921081850jpg0921081850.jpg

I no more than got the valve cover off when i found my first bad sign
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r39/Slidewayz89/0921081900jpg0921081900.jpg

ALOT of copper in and around the oil galleys

http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r39/Slidewayz89/0921081908jpg0921081908.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r39/Slidewayz89/0921081908ajpg0921081908a.jpg

Then i got the lower intake off

http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r39/Slidewayz89/0921081931jpg0921081931.jpg

MORE copper
i know a little bit of metal is usual in a new motor
but this is a little bit ridiculous
then i got the heads off
everything seems to be ok there
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r39/Slidewayz89/0921081948jpg0921081948.jpg

so basically its clear that i spun a bearing somewhere
more pics to come

Or if you feel like running 10s on very low boost. 347-t. I think no more than 10 should do it.

dang dude sorry to hear about the motor:( i say f*** blue ribbon

sprayN306
09-21-2008, 08:47 PM
i dunno what the deal is
makes me wonder if the crank/rods
got worked on like they were suppose to
rods or crank not perfectly round
would eat through a bearing like it was nothin
hopefully its just cam bearings*crosses fingers*

dont know that place...that sucks..i know a ton of people that use rpm

ya rpm is really local for me
but i have heard HORROR storys about that place
we were puttin a truck together at my house
that the motor got built there
and when we got it back the head gaskets
were on backwards
in a 302 that blocks off a coolant passage
and overheats it on startup and warps the head
so im weary to take anything to rpm

06civicsi
09-21-2008, 09:11 PM
those r pretty bad stories yeah they werent v8's or anything they were honda motors but still....that sucks man
