what do you have to have done for safety like cages, fire suits, and etc. I really want to try to make it in my 240 I missed it last year.

I would like to run in Expert (Advanced is what I usually enter when I do other track events). As FridayNight asked - do you have any specific safety requirements for this class? I am equipped with the usuals (helmet, Snell-rated if that's required), a fire extinguisher, safety gear for the car itself, and a harness bar/harness that are properly rated. Anything else that I would need that's specific to your events rules'?

Thanks that's what I was wanting to know. I need the fire extinguisher and the harness bar. Oh and do you have to have a battery box if it's relocated to the trunk, or if its just strapped down with a battery tie

There was pizza?! Haha, but seriously, that's pretty fucked up. I'd much rather pay $5 to see a race like this there, than $50 to watch cars and trucks go in a circle. Still a cheap way to spend a day.

As a novice you'll have a classroom session in the morning, but otherwise you're free to run around, take photos, etc. in between heats.

they require a helmet ... and that you empty your car out of anything that can move while driving ... and they require you to have common sense, thats it

the track layout can be seen if you search for the NSS road course, or search around here

Nice! I'm just being cheap. I went with this mount so I can use my camera as a timing device. I've been shopping for timing equipment, but haven't decided what I want yet.

just buy a 3-axis MEMS accelerometer ... its whats used in the Wiimote ... with a laptop and software like LabView, you can get any reading you want in a few minutes

i wrote a program for a class that would output position, velocity, acceleration graphically ... so basically with that, you could have it draw your path on the track (yay, track map!) and give you your g-forces at any point

He (Still is or use to?) college at Vandy,
You should see the cart they built and raced. Looks like hella fun!

Edit: I see were not allowed to have timing devises what-so-ever....

So we'll get banned if we time our selves?

WynnS123
02-10-2010, 07:01 PM
You can have your own timing device. Tracks Unlimited does not offer these because insurance would be much higher if we had timing equipment. As it is right now, this is just a driving school as far as insurance is concerned.

Jose-Aka-Pedro
02-10-2010, 10:12 PM
Oh ok, The reason I ask is on their site they state this.
But I'm guessing it's for insurance reasons.

Anything competitive though is strictly forbidden, including the use of timing equipment. Doing so can see you banned from that circuit, and we don’t just mean on trackdays

I want the Droid anyway so trackmaster would just be a plus i might use for giggles.
The videos where they transfered the info looks pretty cool. lol

Any cheap timing devises for maybe say $100 or less?

I'm getting pretty excited about this event. lol

I can wholeheartedly recommend that, based on personal experience... my car has never had the same setup at a track day, since 2007, and it's been hell to learn. I finally feel, that this year, it'll be straightened out and I will not change anything else, but I have to get through the first even to be able to know. I wish that I had more time/money to run this event - but I'm just not ready, and neither is the car.

Nope. The rate that an Iphone gps runs is not nearly as fast as a dedicated data logger. It's refresh rate is slower because well, it's a phone. While it can be accurate at a walking pace, it just can't keep up when you are hitting 130mph down the front strait. Sometimes it seemed pretty accurate, but a lot of the times it was obviously way off.

WynnS123
03-05-2010, 09:05 PM
Even the Magellan GPS I have has a delay when I'm driving at regular speed. The rate it updates data is slow because they don't need to make it as fast as a data logger.

Jose-Aka-Pedro
03-05-2010, 09:43 PM
I'm going to try it anyway, I still need to place over 40 markers on google maps on the track to help it be more accurate. But if your video taping the lap you can figure the lap time pretty damn close with a good video editer like adobe pro 2. But this being my first event I have realised I need to focus more on seat time and not even care about time, but on the other side times tell me if I'm learning thru the day

This is not the Iphone. I use the Droid.

Here is why I say its spot on.

I ran Redline Time Attack last season and best time was 1:20.353.

I added Hankook RS2 tires, Coilovers and a Progress rear Swaybar.

The 1/23/10 event we had, I ran between low 1:20 to 1:19s with a best lap time of 1:18.074 all according to the Trackmaster App on my Motorola Droid. From what I have gathered from the reviews, the MPH is not always 100% accurate, but the ET is spot on.

I first tested the app on the street at cruising speeds of about 55-60mph. App was showing me traveling exactly 55-60mph. So based on my experience with it, it is spot on.

I'm very happy with how my 4,200 lbs audi did with only 255hp, I ran a 1:22.464. This was my first event too! I need another car, it was rough on the audi, and my stock pads didn't like hard braking at 115 mph, track pads are my first buy! I think id shave a second or two with good pads, I HAD SO MUCH FUN!

HPDE's are NOT about racing and timing yourself. They are about learning to drive your car and develop your skills. Too many people here talking about lap times and it is only their 1st or 2nd time out.

The only thing needed for HPDE's are good brake pads (Hawk HP+) and some good tires with tread on them. Doesn't have to be R compounds or anything.

Anyways, where are all the pictures?!

I used my timing t help me learn, just one of the tools. From the start to the end of tbhe day there was a huge difference, fifteen soconds. I learned my lines, and learned what worked for me. And what didn't, brake pads are the first thing I'm doing, I came off at 115mph into turn one and my pads faded and I had nothing, the rest of the day I pumped them to keep them cool.

Had a good time too. 5 laps was about all my hps's wanted, but I feel that a full trackday is in my near future. Just got to get the suby off the daily driver program and thats coming soon.

Oh and sorry about passing on the back straight it was all bob's fault lol. (actually I forgot too but he was yelling GO GO GO)

I almost lost it once but kept it under control. Bob did loop it in the same place later that day. I asked him if he was sending the speedway a bill for mowing the grass.

Hey Wynn, I'm pretty sure that was you in the s2k on 840 racing that Expedition just past NSS.

That was me in the Expedition, I was just trying to see if it was you, just as I got close to your door you took off!
:D hope you all had fun!

We were racing? It was probably me. Was it silverstone with black wheels?

It's so awesome being on the track and not being behind the camera for once.
Now I realize just how much the drivers want pics of their cars.
Im wanting all I can get, lol and I'm sure I have over 100 Pics of me.

Heres one for now.

Me and the white cobra were about even aside from the straight were he pulled away, lol with 600+hp he better pull away! me and the yellow mustang and blue vett were all almost dead even around the track. and the lotus had to give me a point by. :P

Now, Let it be known I'm not comparing these cars for racing matters, I'm comparing by car HP and car weight and car dynamics
vs mine. Lets face it, I'm driving a 4,200 lb family car that has 255 hp V6, I'm just very happy with how I did, and fast I was learning and
I know I have a million miles to go but i'm learning. It's just so much fun!

Heres a TON of pictures of me, I just can't justify paying the $8.75 for each digital download.

But I love em! I might buy a couple.

Jeez that's a big line of cars on that track. It's tough to drive fast when you're sitting in a traffic jam.

To be honest, its really not bad at all. It depends on what group you run in. This track day over half of the racers were all Novice. I mean there were a LOT of novice this time around. And if you are novice, you wont be going that fast anyway.
