Congrats on your second ROTM win, a first on this site. How does it feel to have two cars thoroughly approved of by Tennspeed's members?
It feels great. I can't say how much I appreciate it. I don't really think the cars could be much more different but the fact that everyone seems to like them makes me feel like I must have done something right. I have only been in middle Tennessee for a little over a year and to have made so many friends in such a short time has made the move so much more enjoyable.
While we clearly see the attraction to your other ride, the M3 with its blend of luxury and power, what drew you to the Miata and led to its current state of build?
The Miata was actually my Daily Driver while I was in college. My first car was a 1973 FIAT 124 Sport Spider and I wanted something more modern and more reliable. In 1997 when I got the car the Miata was the only option that was in my price range. As far as it getting to it's current state of build it was/is a work in progress. I am always tinkering with it.
Q3: What is you favorite part about the Miata?
The fact that it is somewhat different. The scream of the Supercharger and the looks it get's at the dragstrip.
Q4: Any futures plans for the Miata?
The Miata is actually under the knife right now. Getting a new transmission, ported polished and decked head from a NB Miata, Integral Stage II cams with solid followers and 1MM oversize and back cut SS Valves. It is also getting a smaller nose pulley for the blower and a 30 HP we nitrous kit. The car was running 8.60's by the end of the year last year on street tired. The goal this year is to run in the mid to high 7's on DR's
Any comments you would like to direct towards the "Miatas are gay" crowd now that you have proven a Miata is capable of winning ROTM?
Yea......come up with some new un-funny shit to say.
Haha well congrats again on the two beautiful cars and maybe your next build can make the Triple Crown.
