I need to pick up a good Snell certified helmet for HDPE. I would hate to have to mail order a helmet, really would want to try it on and check the fit. Where around Nashville can you do this? I've got a big fat head (size 8+ hats), so XL-XXL is probably the range I am looking at.

I bought mine from Total Performance in downtown Nashville. It's a Pyrotect, and seems to fit great, has good ratings on it, and is class legal for what i needed.

If you guys don't mind a few hour drive, Ron at Discovery Parts has a very large selection and very good prices. He also knows more about safety than anyone I've met and can help you with your exact needs. One thing I'll throw in when I talk to everyone, don't skimp on safety gear. Not saying you need to buy the most expensive helmet or anything, especially if you are just starting out. I'm just saying we spend all of this money on our cars and it's like pulling teeth to get us to spend money on the safety gear ,when in reality, our lives are worth more than any of our cars.

Not sure about HPDE, but a lot of car events are now requiring an SA (non-motorcycle) Snell rated helmet. Just going to go ahead and get a good SA helmet and be done with it.

Then it's a Motorcycle approved helmet that meets the Snell 1990 standard.

Yeah...I know at least for Auto-x the Snell must be the current one or one of the two previous ones. So as of 2011 anything earlier than a Snell 2000 is not allowed. The Snell 90 would have been obsolete in 2006.

+1 for Ron at Discoveryparts.com

They are located in Atlanta and well worth the drive to try everything on. If you don't want to drive you can just order off their website. I bought all my gear from them. Ron and his wife Seanie are really nice and extremely knowledgeable about safety gear. He also races too
