I'm a noob with bikes but I've riden a cbr and a few gsxrs...and from a noobs point of view...the gsxr was more comfortable and had more power...but I stand to be corrected by someone who knows more...

YOu can get a 1000 for that kind of money. Since its your first sport bike but not your first bike you will be ok. Just respect the power and understand that you are riding a "wild animal" and you will be ok. Do you have an M endorsement on your license? If not take the MSF course to refresh and get your discount on license!

for 5k you can buy a way newer bike than 02 or 03 sport bike wanna see people start gettin real offensive???? for the price i'd recommend an xb12r, crazy handling and rideability rated at 103hp stock which is what my buddies r6 with bolt ons put down and almost twice the torque. top end lacks due to gearing but from the sounds of it you dont need to be out running 160 anyways. for what its worth i've had suzukis and liked my buell wayyy more (just beware of the gay elitest's lol).

btw how you been

With the mentality of this forum you'd be best to just go straight to the Busa. If you cant afford it, finance it. Sure, some people start out on 750s and liter bikes and are fine. Most, however, get bit in the ass. My advice to someone looking to get into sport bikes is to start small. Most people wont even think of 250s or 500s. So for someone looking to start out on at least a 600 Id reccomend an sv650 or an f4i from the first half of this decade. Older bikes are fine too. Seeing that this is your first bike your chances of dumping it are high. With older bikes, buy in is cheaper, parts are cheaper, also this leaves you with money for good gear(road rash HURTS),money to pay for insurance, and if your smart some left in your pocket. Too many people let their ego get in the way of just enjoying motorcycles. In the end its your money and your choice. Go sit on bikes and see whats fits you best. Just think it through.End rant. As for the years you listed gsxrs have the lowest clip-ons, meaning youll be leaning forward more, ie. more stress on your wrists. RRs sit you up a bit higher but the seat is horrendous. R6 is somewhere in between. Sv650 and f4i feel like sport cruisers in comparison. Go test them out and be safe.

Just read this is your first sport bike. DOH! I still stand pretty strongly by my original post. What do you have experience riding? As for people saying the feel the difference in power from one brand to another in the 600cc class, except for the 636 of course, are spouting bullshit.

if it were me and my first bike again, i'd go with a kawi 636. you'll get bored with anything less than a 600. if you do go with the 36 be sure to get a steering dampner if you plan to full throttle 1-3 or just riding in general. those bikes are horrible stock about getting flighty under hard acceleration, but easy fix with the dampner. tank slappers are scary as shit...
let us know what you decide

Nicko has some very good advice, my brother in law is selling an 03 636 for 3200 if you would be interested.

if you 600 yeah 636 is the way to go..im still saying xb12r though cause you can hang with the fastest 600's in turns fast enough to have fun and not worry about it getting away from you and a bunch of old dudes ride them so insurance is cheap as a crapy BJ

636s are nice but my stock 05 GSXR 600 would walk it. They are a little boxy around the crotch area too.

walk?? i highly doubt it. put a shity rider on a 636 and maybe you could pull them but never walk ive personaly seen 636's outrun gsxr 6's....but if your buying any 600-750 for striaght line performance you will get embarassed on a regular bassis anyways

no 240.. no id
