Is there a required experience level for instructors? I mean, I've been on the NSS road course going on about 6 events thus far. I wouldn't exactly say I was top level or anything, but I'm beyond a novice. What are your requirements? I think I can be decent enough to give pointers to novice.

This is the IA Drivers School. I am part of Import Alliance. We will be posting more complete info on the school as soon as I finish it up tonight and tomorrow. I will link on here to the page for preregistration. Its your typical school just at a large event. I am sure it will fill quickly since space will be limited. So dont wait once the page is up for registration. Three run groups based upon experience. Classroom for the newbies in the morning and then follow the leader laps in the morning then more unrestricted fun in the afternoon. Mid level guys get a talking to with basic rules on passing areas etc... then a few follow the leader laps to make sure they know the line. Expert well if you have the experience go play nicely with one another and instructors also join in the fray. Basic things you need to know:
Closed toe shoes required
M2000 helmet or better
No shorts
No loose objects in the car
There will be tech inspection ( dont bring your broken car to the track )
Get good brake pads ( i cant stress that enough)
No ride alongs unless in expert run group or your an instructor
There will be an all four off rule but I am not sure what it is yet. Dont worry we are talking excessive all four offs.
I am sure there will be a few more details you will want to know as it gets closer. Its going to be a fun, relaxed track day to learn, have fun and hang out. Please feel free to send me questions.

Sorry guys I was in NJ for Formula D for the weekend and had a job interview. I am back and on it again. I will be getting back to everyone in the next two days and setting up the small details of the event. Everyone who wanted to help is in. I see everyone who sent me info has plenty of experience to come help for the day and get some well deserved track time at the same time.

thank you all for making my life easier

We are working the details out of the event and everyone who offered to help with instruction should have received a PM or an email by now. I appreciate all the help and advice from everyone to make this a good event. Basics for the event are as I stated:

3 run groups based upon experience
classroom for novice in the morning
closed toe shoes
M2000 helmet or newer
passing in approved areas based upon run group
and have fun

NOW WE NEED PARTICIPANTS.......GO Tell People........!!!!!!!!!!!!

I might be able to help instruct... I've run 4-5 events at Nashville and a 3 day trackday over at VIR all in a Z06. I've also got 4 years of autox experience. I'm no expert by any means, but I can help out I think. PM me if you need the help and to inform me of the details. Thanks.

I get your point, but let me say that this is cheap or at worst average for a track day. You'll spend a lot more than that getting your car towed out a ravine at Deals Gap.

$140 is actually pretty cheap. Track days normally range between $175-250.

Well its actually $150 since you have to pay normal event entry as well which is pretty close to normal for a track day as such. I had hoped (probably foolishly) that since they already were renting the whole facility they may cut a better price to a) encourage more participation from first time entrants and b) to make up for getting rid of the time attack event.

This didn't sound good:

Hey Everyone,

First I would like to say thank you to everyone who is helping make the IA drivers school happen. Secondly I want to start off telling you that I will not be attending the event. We can go through the reasons why and I will in short order but the true reason for this email is to address things that need done and answers to questions sent to me which I will answer in the best way I can with the limited knowledge I have available to me. Think of it this way, for a very small amount of help your getting a free track day. Why am I not attending? Well there are a few reasons. First and foremost is its not worth my time. For what they were paying me as a fee and then off of registration, I would lose more in taking off work than what I would make for the weekend. Thats not mentioning the cost of fuel, hotel and other travel expenses. I have had this event planned three times now and each and every time in the course of the past 8 months since I was called to do it, its got screwed up or I have received no answers to questions for weeks or even months. Im tired of the unprofessional-ism and have tried every way to help this school event. I asked to post on forums and do press releases for IA. I was told no that they would handle it. I have seen very little in the way of support or press for this event. With the exception of enthusiasts talking, I really don't see the chatter or press that should be being generated by IA for the event in general. But what do I know, I just used to be on the NOPI team for 8 years back in the mid 90's to 2000 and a partner in Redline, event promotion for Hyperfest, US Drift, Universal Studios and others. Twenty four years in the industry. So I have given up. I had magazines wanting to help the drivers school and event. No one ever contacted them. I had sponsors for things for the school, no answers to questions on what I was allowed to do or not do. In fact as we speak I don't know that we have course workers. One IA person says yes and another says we have no trained course workers who know safety, extrication, and flags... I am just tired of not knowing answers and being unable to control anything. To top it off you guys are ten hours for me each way. And I am just starting a new high level position in the Industry next week and on the build team for two SEMA booth cars for Major Auto Manufacturers. So here is what I suggest for the event. I think we have 11 participants signed up so far. We need to go over as a group flags, track rules, proper point by procedure and apex and braking zone information. Other than that I think two run groups with mid and expert in one and newbies and mid with instructors if necessary in the other. Just go have fun and teach the newbies a bit. Dont let IA's lack of organization ruin the chance to get someone hooked on track driving..I will be sending a list of instructors to all IA members to have at the gate. You will have to pay the general admission of ten dollars I am almost sure. Be there Sunday at 7:30 -8:00 am. The track can go hot as of 9:00 am I think.
M2000 helmets and close toe shoes.... Make sure everyone takes all the crap from their cars. You guys know the drill. I dont need to babysit you. Make sure you all keep in contact. My new job puts me into events like this in the future. So I will be needing more instructors on a regional basis. But I want to stress these events will be my events being put on by a leading company in the European end of the market.

Thank you and I am here for questions or concerns

Dan Houser

Wow, yeah I can't say I'm surprised. Dan is a cool guy, I feel bad for him. Well, I'm still going to show up and help out anyway, especially with only 11 people.

Mike, will you still be going? I'll introduce myself.

I'd be surprised if there is any driving on sunday at all. I was going to sign up but due to lack of communication with the drivers I will no longer be participating. Instead I will be going to another event with guaranteed track time, and a sufficient staff. Not to down any of the corner workers that have signed up because there are a few of you that have worked other events at NSS that I would trust your skills on the track. The lack of having any plans or schedule for driving time has really turned me off. I believe the IA staff will be distracted enough with the meet, and wont have time to deal with putting on a safe HPDE. I do however look forward to seeing show side of things, as it has always have been well organized and lots of cool people.

It's pretty simply guys. Dan decided to not run the event and Wynn (WynnS123) is now running it.

Everyone that has signed up has recieved an email from Wynn explaining the schedule.

Wynn will be making a post about the event today in this section.

Every story has two sides and from every story there is one side that is true and one side that is not. Unfortunately, I cannot say which side holds the truth and which sides does not. I would suggest that if what Dan says is true then the severed relationship is another blow the IA reputation.......oh well we move on with life and the Show Must Go On!

I volunteered to help with the instructing for the HPDE, but I was informed that my domestic was not welcome at this event. I can understand a little bit being that it is an import based event, but this was for helping people run the track and help them understand how to safely drive their cars at that level.

Needless to say, I will no longer have any concern for IA... I'm busy enough running Nasa as it is.

Yep, said that my vette was not welcome since it wasn't an import. I agree, its pretty retarded because its not like I would put the car in their show section anyways... I would just be there to help with the track newbies.

I've already made other plans now so I can't attend. Hope you guys have fun on the track... Nashville is still a fun place to run even with it being a roval.

I know you can handle it. And for the few people actually participating I am sure you all will have a great. However for average IA attendee I think they wont get much from it and less than they did from the Redline Time Attack. Oh well. Anyway best of luck

Wow between this and what Dan had to say sounds like someone or something seriously went wrong. Its a shame because it would have been cool to see what that Vette could do up here. I cant blame you though man for making other plans.
