Huh? are you trying to say there's a RWD 3000GT? I have seen some converted to RWD with some major work, but it was foolish. The car ends up being too front-heavy, and the interior has to be hacked up for the transmission tunnel. I suppose if would be possible to do well with an entire front engine/rear transaxle setup, but it makes much more sense just to start with a car that was made that way in the first place.
If you want to go turbo, it's going to make the most sense just to buy a VR-4, or you can just enjoy your car for what it is: a nice, comfortable GT with decent power.

thats all of work for the rwd. I knew before hand that it is going to be alot of work to get it the way I want it but in the end it will be worth it. Rwd might not giving me what I want.

I am thinking of selling my beloved 96 3000GT for a Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo
I like the car I have now but a 6 speed is more fun to drive than automatic
this is what the car I am thinking about importing looks like

What do you guys think?
all together it would be $14,250 to import it

Not a good idea. Spend less and just get a US 3000GT VR-4, then you don't have to worry about all the quirks or driving a RHD car or any of the legal or insurance issues.

I am not try to sound like an ass, but have you try to import a car before. what are the legal & insurance issues. Is it really that hard to import cars to the US.
StatixNWH
09-24-2008, 04:30 AM
put it this way....if it was really easy, and cheap, dont you think a lot more people would have them over here?
alex5812000
09-24-2008, 06:01 AM
true, but it is still done. by no means is anything as "easy." It seems most of these posts given to me are a one sided view of the process of why it is hard. You say it is not done because of how long it takes and the monetary aspect of it. Time is as infinite as your patience until you die. that is why it can and will be done But would what do I know any way I am just a man

Yes. That car is not legal here, unless you have a well-documented reason for having it here other than driving it on the street. If at any time someone wants to get picky with you, it's not going anywhere, except back to its origin. Insurance may cover it as a specialty car, but it won't have a legal US VIN, unless you illegally reassign one to it. If you are caught doing that, the car is gone. You might be able to get it through, after much work and money, but why? Why would you go through all that trouble to get something that has almost no usable difference from a car that is readily available here?
alex5812000
09-24-2008, 11:59 AM
Ok then would you say a engine swap is easier then just getting the car.
Whatawookie
09-24-2008, 01:06 PM
I've already told you what I think. Buy a US-spec VR-4. They aren't that hard to find or that expensive.

09-24-2008, 02:37 PM
having a gto would be pretty pimp, and trust me the build quality of gto > vr4 much better, i have imported a car before, and it sucks, basically you shell out a bunch of money for a sight unseen car, then you have to pay someone to pull the engine and trans and put it in a crate, then ship it to a port where it will be inspected then after it passes customs, if it does, you have to pay someone else to put the motor back in. Then you have to ship it to you via rtransport, then when it finally gets there it will probably be a bag of shit and need alot of work. So , in retrospect get a vr4 and use the money you have left to buy upgrades like the gto tailights and some phat wheels
