View Full Version : Smoked or stock headlights?

Serious thread here, please keep it at serious car discussion.

I need to replace the headlights in my 03 Cobra. They are extremely dingy, and they would require quite a bit of sanding to have any hope. Stock headlights in these cars just aren't that great....

I am going to replace them. The car is Oxford White.

Please vote. Smoked headlights or stock?

Recent Pic.....you can't tell very well, but you can see it in the edges and between the headlamp and corner...dingy.

Stock, but just have your current ones cleaned/buffed/polished... I swear you would never know that they had anything on them and would save you a lotta cash... But if you insist on getting new ones, go with stock replacements...

P.S. man I want that car :(

Don't be lazy. Just fix the ones you have.

Thank guys, looks like it'll be stock replacements :)

Milon, it would go with the white car thing you have going on lol ;)

Sorry guys, that image is a little old. The headlights are pretty bad. It's not a matter of me being lazy, it's the fact that the stock headlights are garbage. The aftermarket replacements seem to hold up better.

Stock. Always found it silly to make a safety feature of a car less effective for looks.

I'm going with stock based on the responses....But I've have smoked headlights before. With a pair of silver stars, they're basically as bright as stock headlights with regular bulbs.

Milon, it would go with the white car thing you have going on lol ;)

Yeah no kidding! But man I just spent over 10k just in parts for the project car so I gotta slow things down a bit :( still got plenty of stuff to buy for it til it gets to where I want it to be...

Maybe one day I will own a white 03/04 Cobra even though my gf will kill me if I bought one lol... She was stoked when we went to check out the Supra before buying it, not so much the case when I was looking at 03/04 Cobra's and C6 vettes LOL... But hopefully I made the right decision... So far I love it...

I've made purchases I doubted before...If I were you, I would not be in that position right now. Your Supra is a DAMN good looking car, and it is going to be a kickass ride when you're done.

If the g/f likes the Supra, stick with it....there are worse things she could have a taste for lol.

I understand about spending $$$. I keep spending $$$ on the non car stuff, so I keep putting off bolting the Kenne Bell on. I'm probably going to use some tax return $$$ to finish that off finally.

That being said, I sold the Saturn a week ago, and I'm already looking at new (to me) DD's. Going to look at an 02 Maxima this afternoon. Not exactly "ballin", but it should make for a pretty nice daily.

Thanks man! Yeah she loves it...

You and me both :( I just ordered a new breakfast table last week, there goes 1 grand and then picked up another tv last wee, another grand LOL... That coulda been money for the Supra but I told myself I'd buy a few things for the house before the car is done getting painted cuz afterwards I know a lotta money will be going towards under the hood of the Supra... And you gotta pay Supra tax for parts just cuz its for a Supra WTF!

Dude an 02 Maxima will be a sweet daily!

Yeah, I had to get a new garage door last week. Also had my mom and sister come up to visit, took them out to a decent dinner or two and the g/f wanted a nice dinner for NYE. I also made it a point to get everybody in my immediate family, my g/f, and her little one all nice Christmas presents this year. Not something I was quite in a position to do in the past, you know how that is :)

I got the g/f a bread maker, she LOVES cooking. Looking forward to taste what it produces:hsdance:

I'm checking out the Maxima at hopefully 4 this afternoon. Crossing my fingers that it's worth the trip lol.

One thing you said has me curious. Why are Supra parts still so high? I've looked at Supras 3 or 4 times, and I noticed that the parts seemed a lot higher than I was expecting.

Honestly, I have no clue... I have been wondering the same thing :( its the same crap just for a different car and they charge like double... Hopefully this car is worth it in the end... I want to have some fun with this car...

clean up the stock ones. its not that hard for real. did it on my civic with some 1000 grit (lightly) and scratch remover and alot of elbow grease. the wax the headlights every time you wax the car. this will prevent that from happening again

Nevermind on the Maxima. I'm still looking for an 02-03 3.5 auto, but the one I test drove was a waste of time.

Told me $8k on the phone. Told me $8.1k when I show up, negotiable....car has some small blemishes that weren't mentioned....I negotiate, guy says "I think we've got a deal, let me go verify"

Comes back 10 minutes later to tell me the price is not negotiable, he has no room to move.

At that point, I said thank you for your time, and I left.

I hate used car shopping, especially at used car dealers.

Yes, but the car is black, the angle is bad, and one of the headlights is washed out by the sun.

If the smoke isn't dark and is DONE CORRECTLY it can look nice. Like the pictures posted...they look good. I have always been a firm beliver in NO tint, but as long as you arent dumb with it and get it super thick and it looks like shit-then I think you should go for that slightly smoked look.

After all-its still your car. Do what YOU want to do with it.

I like Whipplecobra's smoked lights, but I think it's because it's on a black car. I think it would probably look ok on the white car, but I say leave it stock.
