Looking to get some high quality interior speakers for the accord before long.

Been told to look at diamond hex 6.5's and 6x9's or alpine type r's.

Any other suggestions?

JL and Infinity are two of my favorites ... Pioneer is good if you get the upper end, not the Walmart-grade crap

Yeah, Pioneer's Premier line is pretty good.

This... its the only stuff I buy.

Anything that Walmart carries that's name brand is actually made in a different location then what you would find at a more normal retail dealer.

For an example we have name brand tires that we carry, but they are made in a different factory and is an "exclusive" to Walmart deal.

Next example is in sporting goods with our line up of rifles. They are "exclusive" to Walmart and are made of cheaper quality parts and sold under Remington.

All in all anything even if name brand shit is still fake.

Utopias in the doors, W7's in the trunk. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I'm a Focal, JL, and MTX fan. Odd trio, I know...but they've all been good to me.

You may already have one, but one of the best things you can do for sound quality is an upgraded HU.

Running your door speakers through an amp helps too. And getting those little foam speaker buckets they have at pep boys really brings out the bass in your coaxial speakers. A square of dynamat behind the speaker works too. As far as woofers go, the box design is more crucial than the brand of sub you get.
Recommendations:
Infinity reference series is good bang for the buck for your door speakers.
I like Alpine and MTX for subs, but there are LOTS of good choices around the same price.
My favorite head units have always been Alpine, and they have the cleanest signal.
Amps? Infinity for the quality. Kenwood for the price. Alpine is a middle ground.

Oh yeah. This thread got a bit off topic. So.....Infinity Reference!
Alpine type R's are good too, but unless you are running them off of an amp, you will get the same result with the type S ones.

And of course focal, boston acoustic, etc. is better, but do you wanna spend $400+ on a pair of coaxles? I know I don't.

One more tidbit....You may wanna look into component speakers for the 6.5". Ya know, the ones with the woofer and tweeter separate and they have the crossovers with em'. With the right tweeter placement, you will get a better overall sound stage.

You can get decent prices on JL and Boston at Hifi Buys. The guys there (ask for Lee) know their shit and will usually work with the prices. I cannot stress how important it is to listen first.

Don't think I have been in there but once since Ronnie and Tom left there.

To stay on topic I would agree with the Infinity references if you are just running them off the HU

what's the difference between coaxial and component speakers?

Components have a crossover that separates the frequencies from the highs (tweeters) and mids (well....mids haha). Coaxials do not have this. Components will sound better.

I left out an important aspect of components, the tweeter is separate from the mid-bass. So make sure you have a place to put them, though there should be a stock location you can use.

not entirely true.

A lot of higher end coax sets have crossovers. In fact most low-end coax sets also have crossovers, but it's more of a single in-line capacitor.

Component sets have an outboard crossover (usually more than 1 capacitor), so they can filter better. But if you look into a high-end enough set of coax speakers you will see multiple inline capacitors and some manufacturers will even make them outboard.

Most crossovers you'll run into shopping are entirely passive however, so they can't physically "make" anything sound better, all it will do is filter the appropriate frequencies to the appropriate drivers [which could result in better clarity].

But as stated earlier in the thread, a set of component speakers with outboard crossovers and the tweeters mounted in an a-pillar, door, or pass/driver door mirror will be the best setup for the front speakers. As far as rear speakers go, I don't know of a good manufacturer that makes a good component set of 6x9s. Those are typically intended for the lower mid and mid range anyway...

JL alpine or infiniti components. All great lines. An amp does help a lot too if you don't have a pretty good radio. Or the styrafoam or dynamat both help a lot.

as most hondas have limited space to put them, might want to check before you purchase, save you the hassle.

fitting it in the door isn't the hard part. doing it without hacking the car up and getting placement right is the difficult part.

That doesn't mean there's not enough room.. most door panels have more than enough room to install tweets and some older civic models they came stock in the panel.

well so far i've done a little research on V6Perf and anything and basically I need anything with less than 2 - 3/16" mounting depth for the front door speakers.

these component speakers...are the crossovers built in? or are they external?

if they're external where do you mount them to?

spoolie

I've only used a electronic crossover or the small externals...place them inside the door panel or in the rear on display with the rest of the electronics.

Don't even listen to Spoolie... all that he's ever had was 2 Lanzar 12's, and tweets on an EQ. No mids at all. Makes 2LiveCrew sound even better...

as far as subwoofers and amps go, JL audio. bar far best quality from my experiences, and easily tuned to be very loud and crisp at the same time. As far as door speakers go, HERTZ has the goods. large range with clean crisp bass. IMO these are the best you can buy around here. go to HIFI BUYS in nashville and talk to lee. hes a good guy and will always give you the best bang for your buck. last year he sold me two JL W7 10's brand new in the box for $199 each. if you know JL prices then you know thats one hell of a deal.

theres plenty of room, but where would you like to drill the hole in your factory door panel?,

i have all infiniti reference in my integra. 6 1/2 in the front and i trimmed for 5x7's in the rear. very nice sound, crisp highs. go infinti. also ive owned several jl audio subs and liked them but this last time i went to an mtx 8500 12" sub in the sledgehammer box with a mtx 500w d class amp with xtant cooling technologies. the mtx kills any jl audio i have ever owned. if you wanna smoke anything jl audio has to offer get an mtx 9500 12" dual or single voice coil

mitch needs the basics explained. components are for voices and acoustics, subs are for bass. i recommend infiniti for components and mtx for bass. who said anything about mtx bass being distorted idiot. unless youre going to dynamat the entire car you wont ever see the advantage of jl audio. might i recommend a car with a bose system like my infiniti q45 if you want clarity otherwise get a loud sub like mtx makes,a very good d class amp which makes or breaks the entire system, good components, and enjoy. dont waste your money on jl audio.

please, by all means, explain the basics to someone whom understands audio on a much deeper level than you ever will. you contradicted yourself in your above statement.

sound is a vibration. it's frequency is measured in hertz, it's power is measured in decibels. loud = more decibels, more decibels = more power, more power = more ability to make alternative things vibrate.

so might i ask, why is a LOUD mtx worth it, if a JL w7 isn't unless you dynamat the entire car... maybe someone needs to explain the basics to you.

Did you really just reccomend buying a different car just to get a Bose system? Get the fuck out of here with that shit. Aftermarket > Bose.

And MTX if you want to play music for people outside of your car. JL Audio if you want to play music for people inside your car.
