There are so many harness options out there really. In your case, since this isn't a race car, whatever looks best with the rest of your gear is probably what you will like the best.
If you want some of the best and most comfortable harnesses out there, try teamtech.

If you can afford it definitely go with takata but if not sparco makes good harnesses for a decent price.

I run Pyrotect... goos stuff, quality. If you want to really waste the money on something like Takata-JDM-stuff - I guess that you'd get props from the kids.

Just make sure it's SFI rated, the date is current and has a cam lock. After that it's just bling. For style, get OMP like Paul Walker and Sigurd or Takata like Fuji Takadrifto

for auto-x, and on the cheap, I would recommend buying some used belts that are out of date. Racers get rid of these on the cheap all the time because they can no longer use them. As long as they are in good shape they will be plenty safe. You go faster on 840 in your car than you do at auto-x and when was the last time you updated your oem belts? I'd check racing sites like nasaforums, racing junk and even ebay

alright yeah ill check those out, and i havent ever updated the OEM belts, i just wouldnt mind getting into auto-x. being FWD i cant really do any drifting unless i have some trays haha

Willans, Schroth, and Sabelt.
Willans makes Formula 1 harnesses...they also make Takata's harnesses.

Nah, find something else (if you're really joking, or not...) Forget Takata - that stuff's stupid (expensive). There are tons of great harness sets out there for good pricing. Check out SafeRacer, or RacerWholesale... they stock reputable brands that are current, and have decent pricing.

anyone have any experience with Crow harnesses?

again:

If it is SFI rated it is good
I prefer cam locks over latch locks (the enjukis posted above are latch locks)
If you buy used make sure there are no tears or frays
Get 3" belts unless you have a HANS, then get HANS specific (2"/3" hybrid)
Mounting is important--if you use wood screws to secure your belts they will fail
Don't use 5 or 6 points unless you have a cage or rollbar
The verdict is not in whether 5 or 6 points are better. You can only find a million OPINIONS on this
Outdated belts will pass MOST tech inspections as long as they are in good shape. They will not pass if you are WTW racing or TT racing.

bottom line: brand names don't make a difference in safety as long as it's sfi

Here's an awesome example of what NOT to do, courtesy of one of our EVO X guys... (you'd think that it was VWVORTEX, by the pictures)

That harness install looks to be within schroth's guidelines for a street harness. You'd only want to use it for autocross though.

?? except that his shoulder belts don't look to be crossed behind his seat or angled downward at all (35-45 degrees), and he's hooked into a baby-seat retainer (you know, designed to stop about a 60lb force from accelerating..).

for reference (without harness bar):

BTW Cool thread guys. I'm actually in the market for some new harnesses and don't like the 300$+ price on most of these.

I've looked into the RaceQuip and even some Corbeau for about $100. Money's not that big of a deal when it comes to these harnesses, but I need a quality set that I don't have to worry about fraying easily.

Any reason why you guys are so shy away from the mainstream racing ones?

Rci/gforce/stroud/etc???

As for latch vs cam: the latch is a little more pita to get locked in, but are usually about half price haha.

Yeah I don't get it either. Its that JDM tyte madness I guess. There are plenty of american made harnesses. I already said it but teamtechs are easily the best. Ask most pro drivers.

Yeah, I went back and re-read the instructions from my old harness and that setup is in fact, a no-no. Thanks!

Actually, most of the guys on this forum who actually do HPDE's use gForce. For the money, it is the best harness IMO. $135-154 shipped for a 3" SFI rated cam lock harness. I love mine, and so does everyone else who uses them.

Not at all - these guys have been doing it for years and years. I like the GForce harnesses, too... I had some in my old-shitty-Starion about 10 years ago (latch style), and they did great when I was autocrossing it.

I run g-force 3" 5-point latch-style harnesses in the MR2.

Cam-lock harnesses are easier to get on, but it's just as quick to get either off if you need to in a hurry (which is the important part). Cam lockers are also more expensive. Up to you if the convenience is worth the expense. No difference in strength.
