Probably the previous owner will have to do a lost title but not 100% sure.

Well for the price and condition it is worth the hastle, and since we are dealers we should be able to get a new title fairly easily.

As often as bikes are stolen, I avoid title free bikes...

"We are dealers" ?

The shop I work at sells used cars, so we have dealer tags or whatever, and to my knowledge it's easier to get a new title through a "dealer"....I don't know for sure...but I'm buying the bike regardless...it's too cheap to pass up...

Well then it seems like the folks you work for should probably have the best answers for you then.

Why would it have no title? It just seems like a sketchy situation and I would avoid it. Yes its cheap, but what if the bike is stolen? I don't care what paperwork comes with it.

I'd address that issue before I went any further.

The title was lost.

Also I've already checked the vin, not stolen or anything on it.

And you know this how? Are you buying from the person that had the title but lost it? Was it in his name?

I have lost a title before, and they are fairly easy to get a duplicate. If you are the person listed on the title.

So give him 12 bucks and have him print out a new one. MetroCenter will do it.

You guys are no help, all I asked was how hard was it to get a title.

DumpedDuce

Yes....

I'd get all the details of this guy before you give him any money so if for some reason anything did happen. Its not hard to file for a lost title, my 16 year old brother did it his self and took him 35 mins.

Also is it a TN title or do you even know for sure? Have him show you registration and or proof of insurance in his name. You can never be too cautious about things like this.

For a car it took me three months through a dealer. And almost 600 bucks. I know I got ripped, but it's better than losing it all.

There is a way to do it. You can also contact a title recovery place and they can help you.

1. Call up the local police department tell them whats going on and ask them to run the Vin. They will be able to see if its been reported stolen.
2. if the owner cant get a title they havent registered in there name because whoever the bikes name is in can get it printed simply by taking the registration in or showing proper I.D. ...probably owes money on it so the lein owner ACTUALLY owns the bike.
3. In that case you wont be able to get a title for it because the banks/loan company will have the lein on it and if u buy it and they find it they can probably get u for buying stolen goods since the "owner" actually doesnt own it...just watch your ass

^ very true. Chances are he owed the price you are paying for the bike. Who knows.

There's papers saying the bike was paid in full. And I said the vin checked out already.

Then why does this thread exist if you are set on buying it and your boss should know how to get a title?

It's actually not that hard from what I've heard. My dad was given a bike without a title, and was able to get one in 3 weeks.

You need to go to the local DMV and ask them what exactly you have to do, but it goes something like this;

You have to get some sort of affidavit signed - ask for one for a lost title
Run 2 one week ads in the local newspaper saying it will be "auctioned off", and if there is a rightful owner, then he/she needs to contact you
Take proof that you did that back up to the DMV
They'll either print you, or send you a title in the mail.

I'll ask my dad what kind of affidavit he had to get signed

Why are half the threads on tennspeed started...

And my boss won't be back in state until Wednesday...

Only 2 ways I know of are find the last registered owner and have them fill out paper work for you or get them to get a lost title,

Or pay a 3rd party company to do it...

that's how Davidson is anyway, real pita to try and track someone down
