I just bought my first bike. Its an 04 gsxr 600. Iv rode a gsxr 750 before but I wanted to start off smaller to get "used" to riding. So far Iv had zero issues with bike. No shaking or anything but it does need tires. I googled and think Ill get some Michelin pilot power 2ct.
The info I need is what is a good insurance company to go through and what are the helmet laws in TN? I just moved here and where I lived the law was if you had life insurance you didnt have to have a helmet or insurance.

Tennessee, helmet no matter what, no exception. Ky has no helmet law, not sure where you are located at, but I'm.like 10 mins from.the state line.

Do not get the pilots if you are a new rider. Brand new pilots are very cone shaped and they will lay you over in an instant. Get something like the Bridgestone Battalax, they are fairly round.

Wear a helmet all the time, if you want to die and get big tickets, don't wear it.

Always remember these two things...

1. You can always outrun a cop, but you can't outrun Motorola.

2. It's not if you go down, it's when.

I have 2CT tires on my R6 and have really enjoyed them.

Other's pointed out that TN has helmet law, but since I'm on the west side of the state, Arkansas doesn't have one... Though I can't understand why you would ride without one.

How good are the Bridgestone Battalax compared to the 2ct? I want to be able to get into some corners and want a tire that is a little more than Ill need BUT from how you described the 2ct I also dont want something that will hinder my riding either.
I also need to get new plastics. One of the previous owners has layed it down before but I looked it over pretty good and rear frame didnt appear to be bent. It dont appear they layed it down real bad but none the less some plstics have cracks and another has a scratch well gouge. My question is where and what brand? I know aftermarket car body parts usually dont align right. Does thiss apply to bikes plastics as well?

My battax did awesome. I wore some holes in the knees with them.

Aftermarket plastics are exactly that way. You get what you pay for.

I've always had progressive insurance. It was the best price for my application.

Is their any place around here to get used oem fairings? I need 2 body panels and as long as their is zero cracks I can deal with scratches since bike will be getting painted.

Its slow

Best way to find some plastics is to check the gsxr forums.. Hopefully you'll come across someone parting out a bike.

Thanks guys. I looked on google but didnt find a clear answer on k4, k5, etc etc. The only thing I came to is it represents the year. Is that correct? I would imagine the K is just the chassi code.?.?

check out the wera 13x boards for body work, as far as 2ct, they have a softer side compound, not worth it in my opinion, esp a new rider, just get the regular Pilot powers if your worried about stickness. the 2ct have a weird transition when they get really hot and are total over kill on the street

Could I put. 170 rear tire on my stock wheel? I ask because I met someone through work that races and are going to basically give their pilot power for 20. It is in real good shape. No flat spot at all and about 75% tread left. Not sure what series tire just says pilot power racing. And a hell of a cone

Ok got the pilot power on their now. I have to say I love it. Amazing traction. I took it out for a ride about 15 min before the rain yesterday and it still gripped real nice. I figured with all the cloud cover and it being a little cooler and on a back road it would be more prone to slip but it didn't.
