Okay, so yes, Tom Brady is supposedly the end all of wisdom on the new MK.

He created a rough tier list from launch (Which was terrible right off, Scorpion is probably the hardest hitting character, period)

He also exposed "spam loops", wonderful. We'll get too that when it's time.

Mortal Kombat 9 isn't for everyone. It's a very basic game that can be spammed by senseless combos (sometimes usually the same combo followed by a special can run the match), and a incredibly ANTIQUE AI.

The offline component is very well built, featuring a Challenge Tower with 300 levels and a expansive 'Krypt' too unlock the extra content through use of the 'koins' you win in story, tag ladder, or ladder or any of the numerous other modes.

The story mode is the most well polished one for a fighter in recent years, having a solid story line that is considered alternate to the current timeline (See the horror that was MK Armageddon).

The story will put you in the place of some of the most popular (and funnily enough the 'good' oriented) characters.

Throughout the game you will get to experience the retelling of the original game storylines. While this provides novelty it's also a bit amusing too see how they retconned a good bit of the game.

Now onto the playing side.
The games fluid, it has very minimal clipping, even in heavy kombo/special usage.
This is a big plus for a full 3D fighter, seeing as games like SF4 have considerable change in frame rate if a super is performed, sometimes leaving your character open for 2-4 frames, against a skilled player, that can be deadly. Also, the game features X Ray moves, which can be a big damage dealer too your opponent (unless they are Goro, Kintaro, Shao Kahn)

Here's a example: (I prefer Scorpions and Noob Saibots)

The game features a return to the previous games fighting, ditching the multiple fighting styles in favor for the more traditional MK3 Ultimate movesets with some modifications. This proves refreshing, because in previous titles too really master the game, you had to master style shifts. That was plain awful.

The tag system is something else of note, it's very fluid and responds to proper frame interference, which means that it can't be used as a cheap way to avoid a characters death in a match. The tag can also be used to perform tag specials, which can be a game breaker in some of the harder difficulties.

Onto the AI, this is where it gets bad. The AI is antique, now by that I mean it has a radial or pathway typed AI, you do the same move more than 3 times, the opponent auto blocks that attack from then out, and in return will deliver a repeated nasty or lengthy counter, even on medium difficulty. Shao Khan is a prime example of this. He does nothing but shoulder rush if you back up, and if you full screen him (the max distance between people on board) he will spear throw or hammer throw (which is unblockable stuns you and does 20 percent damage) til you get half screen again.

As you can imagine, Shao Kahn will make you want too pull your hair out of your head and snap the disc.

Here is an example. Skip too 1:30 too avoid nonsense in beginning.

Now onto online.
Avoid it.

Unless your hardcore it's best you not even go online. Everyone follows Tom Brady's Spam guide with Cyrax and you'll get netted and bombed until you serious will consider returning the game or sawing off your own testicles out of sheer rage. It's that bad.

The online component however is okay, if not flawed in small ways. The matchmaker is slow and sometimes the lag will cause either a staggering defeat or a win you'd never be able to pull off against a moving player.

The king of the hill is a nice re-addition allowing the dominant player in the room too continue taking challengers till he is defeated, it's well executed and has a solid rate the match system after each fight.

The verdict

All in all I'll give it a 4, only because I don't do .5's if at all its technically a 3.75 game.

Pros
Solid game, minimal clipping.
Ditched Fighting styles for klassic movesets.
Solid and long storyline with good script.
Original fatalities and babalities returned

Cons
AI is something out of nightmares
Shao Kahn
Online play is slow too matchmake.
Lack of unlocking Goro or Kintaro

Adam Sessler is way too biased for me, I prefer when Morgan or one of the others gives a review, it's usually a lot more on point.
