View Full Version : Zero Tolerance rule?

This site is getting out of hand. Is there any way to tighten it up?

There are threads outside of trash talk that contain needless rude comments and I see this site going to the shitter fast.

Has anyone noticed this behavior?

Since I'm on TapaTalk 98% of the time, I don't know which treads are where. I believe it tho.

Noted Alex, I'll help reign it in to the off topic and trash talk area.

I think if the thread was never in the trash talk section or off topic, it shouldnt be moved if it wasn't intended to be in either one of those. Either the person who threw it into off topic or turned it into a trash talk thread should be penalized.

Thanks Ryan... I hate to see this site go to shit because of rude and obnoxious members.

Tnhatch03

there would be tons of people penalized here. it has been like this as far as i can remember.

but if it is going to happen, it needs to be consistent and no exceptions.

Yes. I agree completely. I've been on this site longer than 80% of the current everyday members. I know what it was like.

I'd say penalize the people without warning an start a zero tolerance rule. Trash talk is for trash talking, and off topic is for off topic. If the OP wanted the thread to have all kinds of random cussing and bullshitting then he would post it in OT or TT. I don't know what to say about this site. It's been a down hill spiral over the last 4-5 months.

Is my language really a problem for you?

boostiswhatsfordinnerNWH

It's not the language DegreE. It's the needless shoving away of members that are looking for help or an automotive family.

Is it a problem to straighten up your act?

Looking for help? What help thread did I ruin with trash talking? There was a discussion about the current state of the automotive community in this country and I pitched in my 2 cents. Now what got me started on that thread was when the member randomly posted some pictures of his car in the thread without providing any type of counter argument to back his position up.

Okay, intro threads:

There is a difference when people join, own a respectable car, and posts with correct proper grammar...

And

The 16yo dickhead who joins, owns a 1992 Honda Accord with Rotas and cut springs, and p05ts L1k3 tH1s b3cA5s3 +h3y aR3 FuCk1n9 r3tArd3d.

Which would you rather have on this forum?

-The intelligent member who needs to know what turbo back housing will provide the maximum amount of boost at the lowest RPM without choking the engine...

-or-

-The retarded member who needs to know the best way to cut his springs to achieve the hellaflush stance that he sees in magazines.

hmmmm, which person can this forum benefit more from???

I do not know about 4-5 months. More like years. The site is what the owner let it become. I know the mods do enforce some of the rules in the classifieds, but I have not noticed too much outside of that. I do not know how active the mods are because I know it is a voluntary deal to help the site. If the owner does not say what they want and the admins/asst. admins/mods are not agreeing with the way things need to be, then this is the outcome. Members being disrespectful, not contributing to the site, and going over the line. Going forward, no communication and not being consistent with rules will make moderating even harder. It could still be done, it would just take time before members start getting the hint.

It would not be bad to have both. Members could steer the 16 year old in the right direction and tell them the best route to take instead of telling them to F Off and go jump off a cliff. haha...

The grammar does get me, but simply telling them they will get better responses if they type correctly is better than calling them a retard.

i dunno. some of the OG members are young/immature. this would be easily solved by having meets on school nights.

Here are my thoughts on this. This is the internet. It is just a forum to have fun on and make friends etc. I do feel that stuff gets out of hand sometimes. As far as intro threads and tech threads I do feel the trash talk and off topic discussion needs to take a break but as far as everything else, it's not serious. Automotive discussion and the car lounge etc. are places for opinions and so on which usually include banter. What needs to happen is people need to just calm down and quit getting butt hurt over dumb comments. This is a place to have fun and relax from the everyday drive that is our lives. CALM DOWN is my suggestion.

i see what you are saying as well...

i believe the issue people are referring to is the stuff that gets out of hand, not so much comments that are intended to be funny.

everyone calling each other names/being rude/etc. is not funny.

it is funny if they know them and it does depend on the context. but again, 90% of the time, members do not know each other personally.

I am pretty active and will crack down on threats in a heartbeat. However until the entire moderating team is on board for a no-holds-bar crackdown on smacktalk I hesitate to take action that will appear uneven if no other mods act or worse yet reverse/challenge decisions of mods who crack down.

nate hit it pretty dead on. lenny and i were discussing it earlier. theres blatant favoritism towards certain members who seem to get by with more. hell, it's happened to me before in some things, but if something is done, it needs to be done sitewide and enforced

And the whole technical argument for this site is still shit. No one on here tries to post these type of threads. I made a massive thread a while back about some stuff, and it had maybe 200 views. Anytime anyone asks for an opinion on stuff like that the typical responses are "lake mod, clliff mod, fuck your shitty car, omfg i hate the scene, bla bla bla" No one ever gives logic to their answers and they would rather just be a fuck stick towards that person.

People have to realize that not every one is made of money and can't always do the best mods, or what not, but at least have respect for the person doing what they can for a hobby that they enjoy. All this shit people say about leaving the scene because of ........is absolutely retarded. Mod YOUR car as you see fit, and don't let others "make you tired of the scene"" Why should everyone be worried about what others are doing. For example, since every one else is using JohnnyK as an example I wiill too. I don't care for the whole super stretch/low offset deal, but I'm not gonna tell him that his shits stupid and what not just because I wouldn't do it to my car. His car suits his needs and wants perfectly, so why should anyone else get so offended by it that they feel the need to try and blast him online and tell him how much his car sucks....chances are, his car is worth more than your whole build is depending on who says it. op is a phaggot?

thats my favorite tennspeed quote!

but hey when you have a mean age of like 23 MAAAYBE its different.

i first joined tennspeed for teh classifieds. back then there were a million hondas for sale... now its mostly 240s and overpriced junk. lol!

but as it turns out the motorsports section is pretty active in track day guys which i enjoy, because they are young people like me doing what i like. mid tenn has a ton of trackday guys which is pretty rare. everyone around me live their weekends 1/8mi at a time. (lulz)

tennspeed is a good break from my home forum (hsvracing) which is a bunch of old farts with GM products.... and a million GM nut swingers. so its a good change coming here.

there are some people on here who post stuff leaving me asking wtf... really?
and then seeing people get butt hurt because they got blasted for asking 9k for a s13 is pretttttty amusing.

I could care less whichever way it gets enforced as I haven't street raced since possibly 2007, but just be consistent with it and have all of your moderators enforce it whichever way it goes. Last I remember people were told they can post races and stuff as long as it wasn't people on the site.

NO NO NO. If thats what you think this "hobby" is about then you are greatly mistaken. This sport, hobby, or whatever you want to call it, is NOT "if you dont have enough money then buy cheap parts or do shitty mods" type of hobby/sport. If you cant afford to play the right way (aka buy the correct parts and improve your car properly) then you cant play at all. If you cant afford to be in the "automotive enthusiast scene" then dont come into it half assing your car and not expect everyone to make fun of you an tell you to go jump off a cliff. This is an expensive sport/hobby. If you cant afford it, then sit on the sidelines and watch.

You dont show up to a Polo game with a donkey or mule. If you cant afford a horse then you CANT play. Likewise, you dont show up to a paintball game with a bag of paintballs and a slingshot. If you cant afford the co2, n2 or w/e you use and a gun, etc, then you CANT PLAY. Its as simple as that. As I said before, this hobby/sport isnt for everyone. If you dont have enough money to play then you CANT PLAY. Sit on the sideline and watch.

I try to check it twice a day. More if I am at home, I just moved and got my internet back on. It's hard to moderate from a smart phone. Plus I don't get very many e-mails with people flagging posts, kinda hard to fix things when people aren't complaining unless you are reading every thread.

I'd really like to be a mod. I check it about every hour if I'm not constantly on it as is.

Anyway's this isn't a thread about being a mod.

I have a question for the community here.

How many of y'all actually try and get people to join on here?

I'm always telling people that either has stopped to talk about one of my cars or I stopped to talk to them about their cars. Honestly I have suggested some people to this site that most, including I, would call rice but the few that I do, just don't know better. They grew up and around the F&F and that's what they have to go by. It would be nice if we would actually let these "kids" join without running them off and hopefully turn them away from "rice". I will be the first to admit, my first 240sx was RICE! I was 15 and all I have seen big in the import scene was F&F.

Its never right off the bat but after the shit hits the fan, its just great to let some steam off with some nooby trollin'. This is me being honest, I have a feeling someone would bring that up.

Also not liking a newb or his/her car doesn't mean you can't say what you don't like about it. Everyone has their tastes so not everyone is going to like what someone else does. So saying "welcome to the site, but man I'm just not feeling your car" or " welcome bro, hope you enjoy the site and learn a few things" etc and etc. Not this whole lakemod, firemod, cliffmod, bombmod, etc. Sure it was funny when if first came around on this site a couple of months ago, but now its just down right annoying. Sure its ok when joking around in off topic or BH. It's not acceptable if you use that 4 times within 10 posts.

I check the site several times a day and delete posts more than people may realize. I think people need to understand that there has to be some sort of common ground because you can't please everyone on this forum. If anyone has a problem, please address it with us and we'll work to rectify it. Also, keep in mind that everyone on this forum has talked shit at one point in time, so everyone can share the guilt, including myself.

Local forums tend to favor two things: organizing / meets and smack talk. There will always be an abundance of smack talk. It is the way Tennspeed has always been and will always continue to be. It is hypocritical to see members who have actively taken part in this sort of thing start criticizing in this thread.

I understand where you are all coming from but everyone makes this argument the one time they get insulted. Two weeks later that same person is right back in the mix criticizing other people.

You really have to consider how bad it has been in the past. Remember the Clarksville threads and how out of hand everything was getting? Remember Wyatt and all the personal drama? Remember all the love triangles that got publicized all over the site a few years back? I think we're doing pretty good in comparison.

You also have to remember that in the past when we've made the effort to clean things up people start complaining about being overly censored. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten private messages stating that one of the moderators is "abusing their power" and I should look into it.

The moderators here have selflessly taken initiative to keep things from getting out of hand and I applaud them for it. Most of these guys login daily and handle an inbox full of crap before they take the time to enjoy the forum themselves.

When I owned the site there were a handful of us and thats all we did was get on Tennspeed, talk about Tennspeed, plan meets for Tennspeed. Shit. It ruled our lives for four years.... Spoolie and Zac can personally testify to that one.

I remember when I first started the site I must've spent a month straight setting up bots and promoting on other forums. After putting hundreds of hours in I honestly felt like it was worth the effort when we hit 100 members. When you have a stake in something its much easier to justify the time spent. That and the other site pissed me off by making false claims that I copied them so I felt like I was obligated to make this site succeed :P

I remember when we first hit 500 members. It was a HUGE deal. Just goes to show you how far its come. It was much easier to manage when it was a smaller community, too.

When I handed the site over I honestly thought it was for the better. Maybe it was. We were struggling at the time to switch the site over to new software. After spending a lot of hours on the new phpbb it kind've hit me that the software sucked and all the effort was wasted. I planned to go ahead and work the port over to vbulletin but then we ended up getting hacked and lost 50% of the forum data. Thats when I realized its probably better in the hands of an experienced coder who would religiously maintain backups and ensure everything remained updated and stable.

1. PocketMidget
2. WyattEarp
3. Vance (when he trolled)
4. That one guy that hated Nate... LOL

Spoolie used to be the worst troll. I couldn't erase or delete anything without him saying, "I don't pay $30 a month to come on the internet and get censored. Violating the 1st amendment blah blah blah" ... Then between him and AznTwins we decided to just start the Black Hole. It was funny when it first started.

We used to have a really tight knit group. There was a lot of loyalty. People were proud of the Tennspeed stickers. I remember the first time we had the giant stickers and I saw one on Aaron Baird's car and was like, "Wow, I can't believe someone is actually reppin' the big sticker!" ... that was before I realized he would abuse stickers and neon paint :P

We had smack talk but then we'd see each other at the barbecue or at the skatepark meet or the bridge and we'd get the fuck over it.

We really came together at the meets... or the barbecues at Spoolie's. This guy would go out and get multiple kegs and a hundred pounds of hamburgers and hardly anyone would ever donate :P

I think Michael's funeral really put things in perspective for me. No other day really made me realize how close the "community" was at that point. I don't think we have that to that degree anymore. Nobody is really proud to be on "the ricer site" anymore lol :P

Same trip that I stayed in the room with Zac(skinny stage) and Leeroy. And Leeroy broke the head board somehow. I still remember the 114 degree day we woke up to and sat outside and took fucking pictures all day. Aaron, Yoshi, and 4x4le(Brandon) gave me my first rides in a drift car. Jon. That rock chip is still there is it not?

I do miss the old days. I remember when there was a BBQ or a meet, I could name all of the people attending and like James said, we were close knit. I must say Jons BBQ made me realize what a great group of people were around. I commend Jon for throwing huge BBQs and not ever asking for assistance. I know it wasn't cheap, but he knew he was grouping his friends and creating a group that stayed very tight knit for quite a few years until people moved away.

I really do miss all the meets... The legit people, the food, the laughter... James, buy the site back!

Unfortunately, even if that was a possibility I wouldn't have the ability to maintain it like I did when I started the site. I spent more hours promoting and maintaining the site a week than I did at my full time job. With the way business is right now I'm literally investing the majority of my time into my job.

I miss the fun BBQ meets at Jon's house. Even though he and I still hang out weekly, and whenever possible - it was really fun to see all of the differing rides/people that would come out, hang out, and eat. Yes, it's expensive, and I wish that more people would chuck some funds into getting something going, but I may just throw a big chunck of money in, along with Jon (if I'm not being too forward), and we'll have something fun at either his house or mine, soon.
