So the wife and I bought an 2006 Ford Fusion about a month ago and since day one she didnt have a display on the radio. I figured it being a ford, it was probably a bad CD player design (coming from past and present experience from their CD players). So after I got done working on my excursion I figured I'd take a look at it. I took it all apart and looked at the mother board for the face plate and didn't observe anything that was out of the ordinary. I then separated the mother board from the face plate and realized that part of the display screen was being blocked by the trim and also realized that there was a burn in the connection on the screen for the display. I went in the house to show my wife and explained that this is more than likely the reason her display wasn't working. So I then went back out side and installed it and then the display worked for about 10 seconds then dimmed out and then suddenly went black. The wires under the burn spot on the display were definitely burned good enough to not touch each other while I was handling it so I honestly don't know what I did to make it come on, or why it came on. Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

That burn was probably when something didn't give and it caught a tad bit more voltage than it was suppose to.. If it's out of warranty I would take it directly to ford just as you have it right now & show them. If you get a kind enough person to work with they may just work with you and either discount it or just give you another one to install for free.

New stereo with nav. Unfortunately I can't advise you on what to do as far as your current stereo goes.

Id rather stick with a stock CD player.

I hate the looks of an aftermarket radio personally.

The display is all glass and I tried taking a razor to get the seal but I couldnt get it to come off. It was 2am last night when I did this and only tried for 15 minutes or so then gave up.

Yea we bought the car for cash with no warentee's, im going to see if ford ever had a recall on these CD players and see if I cant work with them. We're moving to Kansas tuesday so its something I'll just have to try when we get there.

Yea, but its a Ford Fusion, it doesn't need anything fancy. I'd hate to spend 1k on a nice double din for it. I installed a factory CD player into my Excursion for this reason as well. In my older bmw's I wouldn't mind, but on something newer it just looks out of place with something aftermarket. But this is just my personal opinion.

lolwut?
Have you ever dealt with a dealership? Bringing in part that is already taken a part is just gonna frustrate them and they probably won't even look at it because it's not in the car and on top of that they aren't exactly the "work with you and discount it" type and "free" is not in their vocabulary.
I would say if you were in Nashville there is a place downtown that works wonders on stock radios. It's called Golden Sound and I have seen them do crazy things with stock units. That's who we sent all of our stuff to when I worked at the Honda dealership. They do great work.

Yea I might give them a ring whenever we come back for a weekend and see if they can fix it. If I could take the screen apart I could resolder that burnt connection and go with it until it breaks again. Ford really needs to make their CD players better.

idk what dealerships you go to but it's worked with me so far whenever i had a problem that couldn't have no way been my fault. being that it's already out of the car has nothing to do with it, just the person that you deal with & what the exact problem is.

I has an idea. Instead of wondering why the pos factory radio broke. Why don't you buy a nice new head unit?
problem solved
