You know what I just realized. I realized why people hate the Call of Duty: Black Ops campaign. It is very linear.
I liked the campaign, but looking back at it. I see people's points. However, aren't most "shooting" games linear? GRAW was pretty damned linear. Sure you could choose a different path to get to point B, but either way, you were going to point B. It wasn't like you could just wander around fucking the whole map up like RAMBO.
Thinking about it, Half Life was very linear as well as all of its sequels. Crawl through tunnel/airvent/sewer and kill the zombies/weird ass alien things/combine, rinse and repeat. It wasn't a very open environment at all. And yet, no complaints. (Unless you are D59 and insist it was meant to be a MP game.. Which it could easily be.. but... it has a good story so whatever). Where as CoD IS seen as a multiplayer game. (I don't see how that is related... but it is.)
People are saying the BF3 campaign sucks as well. I am sure I will enjoy it as well (one of these days). Though it is true BF3 was pretty much released just for its wicked awesome MP. (unlike previous BF installments that I have played).
In fact, the only "non-linear" game I have played would have to be Need for Speed or Grand Theft Auto.
Either way, I liked all of the games above. Linear or not.
