Thinking about doing my rims, Seems fairly inexpensive and looks great (from what ive seen). Anybody have any first hand knowledge with this product? Please provide feedback.http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac29/bodasofa/car/IMAG0019-1.jpghttp://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac29/bodasofa/car/IMAG0034.jpg

I used it to redo the trim on my bmw and it turned out great. Just takes forever to dry if applied correctly.
I think it would interesting to see wheels done with it but personally I think it would look different but not in a good way.
Hope this helps some.

most people use it to do emblems and stuff on their carss, but theres a shit ton of guys on the genesis forums who do their wheels in it.

Hope this helps some. Does it look like a plastic? or does it look more like paint. In some of the pics and videos ive seen it looks like a flat black paint. I dont want my rims looking like they have a layer of plastic on them lol

I just plasti-dipped my entire MR2 (it beats looking at peeling clear coat and faded red at least until I have the time/facility to for-real paint it).
You need ~2-3 light coats and it sets up to a really very even matte finish. Also, as long as you put on 2-3 complete coats, it will also just peel off as one piece (or one piece per-section) almost like vinyl, but more the consistency of a thick latex glove. So, no sanding if you hate it, or want to change.
Allegedly you can also paint over it, but i haven't tried that.
Pics on the car and of the finish:

that shoud sum it all up ha.
looks good
The car looks good and makes sense but im not positive that I understand why you would do your wheels in this vs krylon lol doesn't it start to peel or anything

because its easy to touch stuff up with, and holds up nicely. and its easy to get off should you ever decide you don't like it

i painted a few randum things with it. & it pealed pretty easy. Did u put a clear coat on it or anything to keep it from pealing?

I painted a test panel before I did the whole thing. It was a side panel that is over the engine about a foot from the turbo. It's been ~4 months, no peeling. Looks basically like when I put it on. That said, it hasn't been exposed to pitting from rocks or debris. I did spray an extra coat on the nose, mirrors, and leading edge of the wing, just to see.
So short story, this stuff apparently will not just up and start peeling off on it's own.

Ive plastidipped 2 cars.. stuff is pretty cool.. I wouldnt do wheels though ive seen some evo wheels done and it comes off if pressure washed.. etc... Maybe if you prep them good it might hold better.. I tried putting some of it on some spare rims i had and it rubbed right off..

The car looks good and makes sense but im not positive that I understand why you would do your wheels in this vs krylon lol doesn't it start to peel or anything From the sounds of it there is little to no prep, Just basically clean the rim really well, And make sure there is no grease on it vs krylon where you have to sand it down, primer it, paint it, clear coat...so forth, And if you dont like it you have to start the process all over. Where as this, if i dont like it i can just peel it off :)

Exactly the reason why I want to try this.

Those pictures look really good, And looks like you spent some time on it. How does it hold if you wash it?

Point taken, I dont think i will be pressure washing my wheels though lol. I am going to see more in depth how much prep is actually required here soon. On your spare, how many coats did you apply? Seems most people put 3 coats on fairly heavy and its "supposed" to hold like cum stains on the pillow. Im going to do 1 rim this weekend, And put it to the test, Scrub brush, power wash, hot water, cold water...so forth and if it messes up i will just peel it off and have only wasted 6 bucks lol

Hmmmm... I might do this to the teg...
I havent researched but based on several valid points mentioned in this thread I think it sounds interesting at the least. I still dont see how it would not peel but if it works I think it looks alright and it is rather inexpensive too

Damn, plasti dip never held up on anything I've done car related. I'm jealous. I tried some interior pieces also and they didn't last long at all.
The matte finish are the Mr2 looks good.

I haven't tried properly washing it yet, but it's been rained on, and frosted over so far with no ill effects.
Time-wise, I did it over the course of about four days when it was decent outside. A panel or two each day, and then finished it up over a weekend. 30 min between coats as suggested. The only prep was to wash the panel, dry, and then wipe down with a prep solution to get any soap residue off. 3 coats most places with maybe another dusting for some of the vertical surfaces where I had do use lighter coats to avoid runs.
If you had an entire day, ~10-12 cans, and masked the car all at once, you could totally knock it out in one sitting (coat car, grab a snack, coat car, go get lunch, coat car, watch a ballgame, touch up, grab dinner, un-mask, and re-touch anywhere that the masking pulled up or got missed.)

As you can tell in the pictures on page 1, It covers up most small imperfections. I spent most of my time making sure these rims were clean. I spent about 2 mins sanding down any major chips in the paint. In reality i just sprayed the shit on after I cleaned them really good.
I did a test to see what the outcome was like, I took a knife and made a small cut and peeled some of it away. I Then resprayed it to see what would happen. You cant even tell right now where I did that, So the stuff is pretty good when it comes to that. I would imagine if you hit a curb or something you would be able to just clean the area up and spray right over it.

Thanks, Ive had them for a while so they are old to me.
They are RS Limited 16x7JJ 690kg But they also say RSL8 on them. Im not big into rim companys so i dont know much about RS limited other than my friend said they were big in germany, and they are currently on my civic. Ill be taking another picture here soon once i get them put back on. Really looks good to me. I think the paint kinda gave them that new feeling again, Since ive had them for almost 9 years :)

I really like those. They turned out pretty good with the plasti-dip. Hopefully they stay looking good for a while. I tried finding out some more info on those wheels, but it seems as though they discontinued them. Sux, because they look like they would make for a real nice autox wheel.

Plasti Dip = Awesomeness. yes it does peel off, but after it dries for 4 hours it a little harder to "peel" off. put 3 coats on my front lip and probably going for coats 4 and 5 this weekend to add more protection from rocks and junk

Seen countless threads about people having it last 5+ months fine before any issues on full cars.
Granted, I've seen alot of people have it last longer.
Main reason I decided to go plasti-dip is because I can just peel this shit off and itll last me til legit paint.
Plus... Because Driftcar.
Snagged some finished pics today. Still need touchups on the other side and the skirt area.

"Some prep work"...like, (Minus taping off...) light scuffing of panels, or what?
I've read to primer, and ive read where people havent primered...I want to do this so i can get all panels the same color until I prep for real paint, but if i have to primer i might wait and just raptor line this bitch...
