Recording

I was just wondering if anyone is into recording music? If so, what do you use? I am working on some original music and it just doesn't record well on my laptop through the factory microphone setup. What is the best way to go about recording? I used to use a midi microphone setup through cakewalk etc but do not have any of that equipment or programs anymore.

What instruments are you recording?

I had a Boss 8 track digital recorder with mic inputs (xlr or something?) as well as a few analog 1/4" inputs.

It's just my voice and guitar right now. I'm trying to track some demo stuff.

I can't speak much from current Boss equipment, but I've always had good luck with their multi track recorders. Usually sub 300$, and the models I had dealt with always offered free editing / mixing software online if you didn't have any already.

I usually check stuff out at Sam ash (maybe guitar center?) before I buy.
