Well I said goodbye to the S10 this weekend. It was a fantastic little truck but just not quite what I wanted to drive on a day to day basis. I bought it to aid me in remodeling my home, which places me 15 curvy miles further from my workplace than I lived previously, and that project is done so I sought something a little more fuel friendly and much more entertaining to drive. With a little negotiation I ended up with this:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

2004 Ford Focus SVT. Bone stock, aside from stereo. Unmolested. I've never been a Focus fan and certainly have never done any research on the SVT, but these are cool little cars. 170hp, getrag 6MT, really nice leather interior, relatively lightweight, big brakes, and virtually zero common issues and a plethora of pleased owners all over the interweb. So far I really like it, it handles like its on rails and is peppy enough to make my daily commute alot more interesting. The interior is very well done and gives a pretty cool luxury/sporty feel to the car. Car and Driver ranked these cars highly over the EP3 Civic SI and the VW GTI 1.8T, which kind of gave me the final push to try it out. So far I'm very satisfied. Anybody have any experience with these cars? Seems like it'd be a really well performing autocross car.

Neat little cars. I looked into them before I got the Cobalt. Only real downfall is no LSD.

One of my friends used to have one. It's been a while, but I remember the timing tensioner failing early (somewhere around 40K miles) and bending the valves, as it's an interference design. It's probably not a bad idea to change it more frequently than Ford recommends.

Yeah I saw that...the OBX helical diff is only $450 so that's a viable option. More than likely I won't mess with it.

Duly noted. I intend to do a new timing set and water pump in the near future due to the mileage.

Very Very well taken care of. Clean, minimal dents, good paint, super clean interior, all well above average for the mileage.

I was too...its a little harsh on rough roads and bumps at low speed, but at anything over 55 it seems to smooth right out.

I never would have guessed they were as impressive as they are; definitely a contender in the 4-6k price range.

I really wish mine was a 5 door...I love them and they are a little more practical. Oh well...I'm satisfied.

This one really made me look at the Focus much differently. Base models don't do much for me, but the appearance package of the SVT really sets them off.

Yeah the prices on them are really quite low. Great deals for a sporty DD.

Neat car, is there something finicky or costly about the trans in these? Thought I read about that somewhere.

I have always wanted an orange one. A friend of mine had a zx3 in high school and we gave it hell, and it never gave him any trouble. We took it to the drag strip, jumped railroad tracks, ebrake slides, etc. It was a fun car.
