Please don't take offense to this. If you don't know what I mean by oil clearance then that is exactly why your engine spun all of its bearings and is also why you should not be assembling engines.

He is pretty much spot on about not knowing what oil clearance means. What do you call it, if not oil clearance?

At the very least plastigauge should have been used even though I do not condone the use of it, as I prefer to measure with a mic and a dial bore gauge. Without measuring anything it is a complete gamble, plain and simple. I'm not trying to be an ass here, I just do this for a profession and I'm trying to help you understand why your engine died.

Did you fill the oil filter halfway on the new engine?

Did you crank it with the plugs and ECU filter out until you had oil pressure?

If not, you probably were running with a cavitating oil pump and no oil pressure for a while. Bearings toast.

Actually, in everything I've been taught, the only time you DONT want to fill the oil filter 1/2 way is on a brand new engine... Thats what assembly lube is for.

There are different schools of thought I suppose.

Regardless, you need to get the oil pump / oiling system primed before you just up and start a mostly dry car...

Otherwise, just asking for trouble.

I always crank until I have enough pressure for the dummy light to turn off. Or until I have a reading on a pressure gauge, if installed...
