It was only off due to the fact it had a HUGE whole in it and I was having it patched. I don't like my car loud, they get annoying.

I like to be able to hear my exhaust, my stock exhaust is wayyy too quiet. I prefer quiet yet noticeable when driving normal and loud/mean when I wanna open her up...

Setting off car alarms has everything to do with frequency and very little to do with loudness.

I'm not very loud, but my car just above idle tends to set some off. The NSX was far louder and didn't really bother them much.

Diesels make me angry since they tend to sound like bolts being fed through a PVC pipe into a blender, just louder...

I want to destroy every loud truck that passes by. There is a difference between sounding good and being obnoxious. To stay more on topic I'm fairly pleased with the circuit sports exhaust on the 240.

Most of the time, would rather have my window down listening to the exhaust instead of the radio...noticeable, but not loud. And not so loud that you can't hear it spool up.

At high RPM (6.5-8.25k) the exhaust on my car, frankly, sounds like someone auto-tuned six angels having sequential orgasms.....However, I still don't want to hear just that, all of the time. If I'm winding it out....yes, noise would be nice please. However if I'm just commuting or killing some miles on a trip...it's nice to be able to roll up the windows and have a conversation or hear the radio.

With my other car...which is a 4 cylinder, I only really want to hear it in-so-far as I can tell it's running. Very few 4-bangers sound remotely "good" (boxers, 4AGE, and maybe the F20C/F22C1).

Mine is too loud for me. I want to tone it down a little, but I don't want to lose any of the power I am making. My car's not fast, but I have grown used to how quick it is. I don't want it to feel slow again. I deal with it. It doesn't sound that bad outside the car. It's much worse inside it.

I like for my DD to be quite and comfy, like the 335.....and I like for my toys to be ridiculously, annoyingly loud like my 03 Cobra was or like my GN with the cutout open...

My 96 Cobra is getting the Magnaflows replaced with SOMETHING louder here soon.

The Mustang is entirely too loud and raspy since the cats came off... I gotta do something. I like my exhaust noticable, but not obnoxious and annoying to other people.

My old 330i was always loud IMO. I started to get tired of it after doing a few 9+ hour trips. I have learned from that mistake and did a bit of research before getting the exhaust for the M5. I wanted something that was almost drone free and would really scream when I put my foot down. The RPi exhaust has done it while making the V10 sound almost exactly like a Gallardo with an exhaust. Also, Miracle if you want to keep cats off and make it bearable to drive, I would put in two tube style resonators. Those will quiet you down by possibly 20-30% while keeping the same power. This is just from experience working with my vehicle.

My old 325i was quiet as hell and kinda reminded me of a fc rotary cause of the nice hummm sound it made but then i replaced the whole exhaust system starting with some headers i got off a friend to a cheapo high-flow cat into a 2.5 straight pipe setup into dul tips and it sounded great.. not to loud not too quiet.. just a quiet rumble at idle and didn't get loud until i got it somewhere near 4500 rpms... like in this video >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzSn6RU_5kc

I like a lil sound out of the exhaust just so you can hear it when you have the radio tuned down, BUT thats only in my cars loud pipes on a bike is where its at not only because they sound good but there are a lot of da that if it wasn't for them hearing the bike they would never know it was there.
