Looking for first bike
Typical Thread, But Ive done countless hours of research and read the threads here.

So I'm looking for a 600. I'm 6'5" and 225 so I'm no little guy and
when I stopped by some shops to sit on some bikes the 250's were def smaller.

Anyway, Looking around I don't want to spend a lot on the bike,
and I found this 99 gsxr 600 and with 22k miles anything that really needs
to be looked at other than all the obvious stuff I can think of like
Tires, Wheels, Brakes, Brake Lines, Overall looking for damage or anything like that?

http://nashville.craigslist.org/mcy/4940196544.html

I wasn't wanting to spend more than 3k and this one leaves extra room for
better gear. I work 1 mile from home, and even when we sell we plan on moving about 10 miles from where I work. So no crazy long distances
and even if I have to buy gear first, it's not getting chimped on.

make sure you go fuel injected. that gsxr isn't i don't think. you could probably find a kawi 650 in that price range. they're newer.

as far as what to look for, check the cases and frame for scratches and dents. check the plastics for broken tabs or scratches that are real deep. do your typical check on wheels, tires, brake lines, fork seals, oil leaks. things of that nature. look for rust in the tank too.

if you're not going to ride long distances, get a scooter. 4 bucks (if that) to fill it up with premium and it would probably last you a month.

if you're dead set on a bike, look at r6, cbr's, and zx's. they're all decent bikes. i guess what i'm saying is, don't settle for the first bike that's in your price range. you could regret it.

My er6n (basically and naked 650) was great for my first bike. Now im looking at a Z1000 but i never had any issues with it. Its very thin and nimble around the corners and has just enough power to be forgiving yet fun. It also was very cheap to maintain as well.

Have you ever thought about the Suzuki SV650? That's the bike I've always tossed around getting if I was going to get one (it would be my first bike, and I'm a similar size to you). I've heard a lot of good things about it, and probably wouldn't get me in as much trouble as a GSX600 would.

^^ I'm really open to anything since it's my first. I found a couple R6's I like.
But I'm not dead set on anything.

if the bikes are within 20 minutes of me (smyrna) i'd be willing to go with you to look at them if i'm free. I also have my motorcycle license and would test ride them if you'd like.

I had a CBR600. It was far from my first bike, but it was well balanced and easy to ride. They are generally pretty cheap as well.

Oh yeah, mine's fuel injected too. That was a big plus to me. I used to have a Honda Rebel back in the day...I'll never go back to carbs.

I am 6'6 and have been pretty happy on my hayabusa.

The GF had a 600F4i for a while, and while I really enjoyed riding it, it looked alot like

Thanks, the fuel injection is a big plus but I'm looking for something a
little more sporty looking. I know... Total Squid. But it is squid season right.

lol yeah I'm a little worried about that, But 600's are similar in size so

You're tall and scrawny so I think a NightRod Special like I had would be perfect......

Only wanting a sportier bike? A dual-sport bike would work with your
height. I also really like how the KTM 650 supermoto looks. Although, I'm not sure on how they run.

Vinnie I saw a bike I want when I was in GA, we stopped to pick up a shirt for my father in Law who collects different Harley shop shirts and I looked at a 2015 Street Glide in Radioactive Green, not bad for 23k
