Tell your friend not to touch one of those things unless it has been fully compression and leak down tested. They have significant issues getting oil to the rod bearings as well as ringland problems.
Never had a problem with mine. Haven't really heard many problems with this actually. The biggest oil problem that I heard was the small screen in the banjo bolt getting clogged. Subaru had a TSB on it though. Most people just removed them.
