Car is no longer for sale!!!!! Update to previous post!!!!!!!!

There has been a big development with the car this last week.

I had sent the car out to Deft Motion to have the engine mounted in the car. It was very disappointing to find that the engine was not going to fit without the firewall being heavily modified. I have put so much hard work into this car, just to cut it up and modify everything again was not an option for me. I figured it was time for some drastic changes.

I just picked up tonight a Vintage 18RG. Been sitting in storage over 22years. Will be costly and for sure needs a rebuild but is a perfect swap for my car. Even better news is that it will all bolt right up so no chassis modifications.

Time to get this car back to its roots and back out on the road.

The car also received a good final buff and polish so the exterior will now start being assembled. Here is a pic. Enjoy!

Expect more updates soon!!!

Seeing your new engine choice on Facebook got me excited. THAT is a great choice, and very fitting for a project of this caliber. Good luck, man! I hope that everything comes back together quickly. It'd be great to...

Brent, I would be going the same route as you if this were my build. Yeah more hp is fun but originality is where it's at. Can't wait to see more updates

Are you going to be able to use that radiator and subframe or was that specific to the sr20?
The radiator could be modified to work but I will be replacing it with the JDM Koyo that's made for my chassis and this engine. The engine cradle will still work. The guy that made it for me is shipping me the weld on mounts for the 18RG for free.

That little motor makes some fairly decent power for what it is. It would be awesome if there were some cams or something to go in that head to make a little more power.

The 18RG is the route I would've loved to of gone to from the beginning but the motor is so hard to find I never would've got there. Looks like fate just stepped in and gave me a break though.

Yes Moody!

Thanks Rudy! I'm hyped. Motor should be here by Friday.

140hp stock. Compression Bump and a small cam will make around 200-225hp. Not shabby at all. This motor is 100% complete and original Toyota parts. I will for sure be hitting you up about tracking down some rebuild parts.

May be hard pressed on some of that, but I'll do my best! :)

New engine arrived today. Time for a rebuild so I can get it in the car ASAP. A few weeks wait on pistons after I get it back from the machine shop but after that it should go together pretty fast.

who is gonna do the machine work and install?
I lined up a guy that specializes in older Toyota engines like this one for the assembly. Knows his stuff very well. Unless he has a machine shop he prefers to use I will have Shackletts do the work. Brangers in Kentucky was my first choice as referred to me by Moody but they suck at communication and I just dont trust them 3 hours away with my motor.

Tracked down a W58 trans with a 22r bellhousing last week. Will be going through it freshening up everything. I will be installing the engine myself. The guy in Cali that made my cradle is shipping me the mount to weld on. Since its a stock fitment motor everything bolts right up to the car which is nice.

Getting quite a collection of hard to find used 18RG parts. Hope to be making my order for the remainder of the new 18RG parts needed on Monday. Pistons, bearings, gaskets, etc. then it's off to the machine shop!

Clutch came in today also. Spec only made a Billet Aluminum flywheel for the 18RG so I had to spend an extra $100 over a steel. Oh well.

Even better news is I finally sold the SR and almost everything that went with it. Finally getting some garage space back!
