Hey guys,
So the 29th I have my brothers first Home Game vs Their rival,(Football)
And the 30th we have the drift vent.
Im gonna be renting a lens, since I cant afford one yet. :p

And My choice has come down to the 70-200L f/2.8
Now I have the choice between IS or No IS.
No IS being cheaper and more easy to get.

I have never shot with an IS lens, L series whitebody.
I'll be shooting a football game and the drift event.
Is IS something I really am going to want or can I be ok without it.

Thanks
-Jose

lol then I should get the non IS if its sharper...
I have never used either so I dont know if the IS is worth it.
I wont have a tripod unless I can come up with an extra $30

The non-IS is slightly sharper, but both are extremely sharp. The Image Stabilization would help for panning and for night photography. For football games the 70-200 would be ideal, unless you can get in closer with an awesome prime lens. At most professional events this isn't going to be happening but at highschool it'd not be a big deal.

For the drifting, its probably decent, but I don't think you'd need the length at a parking lot event. I wouldn't pay alot for one just so you can practice panning, I'd start with a non-IS lens until you nail your technique.

ok thanks, non-is it is then.

Well the 70-200 is what im really going to need for the game.
Yeah I'll be on the sidelines, and if im not on the side lines, im only 5 feet furtherback where everyone else can be.
I figured the drift event 70-200 Im going to be more on the 70 side, if anything I'll just get frther away. lol

Be prepared to take like a monopod or a tripod even...

200mm + handheld + no IS = possibility for camera shake ruining some GOOD shots, especially as the day goes on.

Yeah, I used a 70-300 standrd canon lens at Import Alliance and at 300 it wasnt that bad and the shots came out pretty decent
and the fstop wasnt anywhere near 2.8 so the shutter was open longer than it will be with this lens.

I guess we'll see. I have to come up with the money first, its gonna be almost $100 for a week.
that including insurance and shipping
I gues we'll see. Only thing I can do is try it out and see how it goes.
I just didnt know if IS made that huge f a difference for an extra $10
