it's called weight distribution. if you mainly race on a small track without a long straight away you sacrifice a larger engine because you don't want to make all of that power. you can only use so much power then it's overkill. I know this won't make since to anyone who drag races, sorry.

2J aint that heavy, SR aint that light ... there wouldve been a lot of other things he couldve done before deciding to swap

the swap itself doesnt bother me because what HASNT been done with a 2J in a Mk4 supra yet? nothing ... at least this is something interesting, even if not 100% unique

You still want to have more power to accelerate out of corners (up to a point, the 2JZ-GTE is not beyond that point for race purposes), but if there is a power limitation like JGTC has, it can be more of a benefit to improve the weight distribution, by installing the 100lb lighter 3S-GTE, than have the extra low end power. Both engines have no problems making the 500hp limit that the GT500 class allows.

If you are not racing in a power-limited class, this swap makes no sense.

Going from a 450lb cast iron 6cyl to a 300lb aluminum 4cyl is a pretty significant weight savings IMO.

That was my thought, Weight savings is about the only reason i can think to make that swap, There is probably even more weight saved in the trans depending on which one is under there.
