Before you go out to eat Vol. 1

So after working in a restaurant for too long, you can come across quite a few annoying things. Some people don't seem to understand how a restaurant is ran, what servers put up with, and how to be decent. I know this isn't the case all the time, but I just feel like there are some things that people just don't understand.

I figured I'd post topics here and there just to let people know how things go, and to rant. :p

Seating

Alot of people always assume that a restaurant always has plenty of room, plenty of booths, and there is no reason they should have to wait. Now, when the restaurant is full on a weekend I think that people understand the idea of having to wait. Hostesses write down your party as you arrive. They go down the list and seat people as tables become avaliabe. There is no need to walk back and have them look at where you are on the list, check your pager to see if it works, etc. Just wait. If you have 2 people in your party, and a family of 6 gets paged before you, even though they get there afterwards don't freak out. They aren't going to put 2 people at a 6 person table!

Also servers are on a rotation. If there are 12 servers, then I get every 12th table. Servers have sections of 3-4 tables. If its busy and they take you to a table, its for a reason. Don't ask for that empty booth across the restaurant, because that server is probably really busy and you are not going to get good service. You are probably going to a table where a server has fewer tables, is in line in rotation, and is probably going to give you better service.

Also, if you walk into a restaurant at an odd time, like between lunch and dinner know that there are probably only 2 or 3 servers working. Restaurants staff up early and get rid of people as the shift goes on. If 10 people start a shift there will only be 3 or so closing that shift. Around 2-3 in the afternoon there will only be a couple people serving. This is because the store is not busy at the times and no one can make any money if there are a ton of people working with a couple tables in the restaurant. Sit where they take you. Dont ask for a table on the other side of the restaurant bc that server is going to be running all over the store to get their tables and yours.

I realize alot of people arent like this, but you would be surprised. :p

as for eating out at a restaurant, im actually a great customer, and always clean up and stack everything on to as many plates as i can without being obnoxious and always wipe my spot with napkin, lol maybe im OCD i dunno its just a habit that kind of stuck :p
in my experience, the rudest, loudest, least patient, and worst tippers? sunday afternoon church goers. and they are consistent and organized. im with her^^, i always do everything i can to help that person, been there and know it sucks.
