Ok i got a 93 civic hatch with a gsr in it. My friends and i swap it like about a couple months ago. We did all what we can do for it to run right.... (still ain't) the problem is it idles high(1500 rpm). also it goes up and down. it also back fires when i ease of the gas pedal. i changed also about everything that i thought it's the problem. iav, mapp sensor, etc. i'm getting low on funds and patience.

clean out your iacv with brake parts cleaner and your fitv with brake cleaner as well.
idle air control valve- back of intake manifold. - 2 bolts and 2 coolant lines
fast idle somethin or other (haha) - underneath throttle boody 3 bolts and 1 maybe but dont think so 2 coolant lines

search google and you'll find fully detailed write-ups on how to do this from honda-tech and various sources

i know when i got my hatch it wasnt throwing any codes but ran like complete ass. checked the harness and the guy that had it before had messed up the three plugs on the back of the motor that are the same type plug. make sure your iat, iacv and tps has the right color wires going to each. its freee to check and it fixed my problem

sounds like timing to me. and the idle up and down is a vaccume leak. or tps out of adjusment. no check engine lights?
that's is what i think too. it's the timing. i did jump a tooth and all i did move the pulley back( yeah i know i shouldn't half ass it) and yeah there's a check engine light but the code is for the knock sensor
