So I dont know to much about these.. But I think they can give pictures a cool look.. at least from what I have seen

I recently saw some pictures taken with one and basically all I know is that they give the pictures a blurred or distorted look..

Almost like old pictures with light streaks..

Just curious if anyone uses them..

If so likes/dislikes

Are they common.. made for alot of newer cameras?

Thanks guys!

Holgas are toy cameras ;)

They're really cool! Google Holga, or Lomo. You'll find alot of cool stuff. You can convert them to use polaroid film, they call them Polgas.

Anyways, they're cheap, can get them for dirt cheap on Ebay, they are made of plastic, probably are full of light leaks, have variations from camera to camera, and are a bit of a pain to really get into.

They have a distinctive look thats really outstanding because.. I guess their -lack- of quality. Alot of them have crazy light leaks and crap that give them these really crazy end results.

They take a little bit of time and dedication, but for someone with an artistic eye they'll definitely give alot of satisfaction in time. You may go through fifty wasted shots before you get one you like ;)

It sure is a break from the structured realm of digital photography where everyone nutswings over megapixels, $1500 lenses, commercial lighting equipment, etc.

Have some fun with it if you're really interested.

I learned on a Holga - it was the first camera that I shot with, fixed when I dropped it 9,000,000 times, and then also was one of the most fun to use when it was working right.

I find the entire genre of what photography has become to be really disheartening. I started by developing my own film, and shooting from an older Nikon along with that stupid Holga that fought me, constantly. It wasn't so much of what kind of shot that you got, but at the same time - it was as equally as important that you had a mastery of your enlarger and darkroom equipment, as well.

I've made it a point to just not really keep up with digital photography, because I'm tired of it (and here, I was That Kid in class that pushed it so hard in 2001/2002, and now SCAD doesn't even HAVE an option to shoot and develop one's own work. Fucking lame).

Yeah, I understand.

If I'm going to shoot something that I want to be perfect, I've got my Canon DSLR, and I don't plan on giving that up and I'll continue improving my lens collection, etc (I'm actually looking at purchasing a 135 F2 atm).

But film cameras have alot of character, I just recently bought an old Pentax ME Super that came with an M42 adaptor. I think its going to be alot of fun.
