i just did a clutch in one of those at the house, there not that terrible to work on, the trick to toyotas are that they are designed to come apart, meaning you have to know what to move out of the way.
Yeah I'm working on that now. I have to remove the manifold. I have all the nuts off the turbo manifold and really don't want to remove the 4 connecting to the turbo. I'm removing as much exhaust from under the turbo to hopefully loosen where I can push the manifold off enough from the motor to replace the gasket and studs. Any ideas?
if you're doing a clutch, two things. 1. even if your on the ground the common misconception is you have to take the exhaust off. you don't, i actually did the last one without removing any peice of the exhaust except for the muffler hangers. You have to remove the rear subframe assy and take the sway bar off. you will also need to take the trailing arm assy off with struts.(i used to disassemble the suspension but found it wasn't ness. you just have to put it back together back to front not tightening anything untill everything is lined up)
2. make sure you pay attention to how the slave cylinder comes off, when you put it back together leave the slave pin out untill everything is lined up and finger tight, then insert pin. you have to get the slave assy from the bottom, no choice. Last thing to come out should be starter, then the side mount which will allow for the trans to drop down. There are four hidden bolts from trans to plate, if you miss them trans will not come out. yes they are useless but they're still there
