So on the way to the bank after school stuck in traffic i was rear ended. It happened at the thompson ln and old fort prkway intersection sorta by the I-24 bridge. Traffic was backed up miles after wards. My car is pretty much totalled as is the other guys. I stopped due to traffic and the man behind me just didnt see me and hit me at about 40 or so. Nothing on my car lines up right now and it just sucks that i have no car now. At least no one was hurt. The car that hit me his air bags deployed and i dont think he had a seatbelt on because he ended up falling on the ground outside his car. Just really glad no one got hurt besides a little bit of bruising and aches. Looks like ill be in the market for another car here soon. Worst part is i just turned 18 last week and i was supposed to trade for a Gst tomorrow. guess thats not an option now.

Btw dont know if the guys a member on here or not , but he was in a Black RSX. Really nice guy, accidents just suck in general.

Do you think my car is going to be totalled? How does the insurance company base what the amount they payout for your car is?
Thanks

They determine how much you get by bluebook... Very distorted-in-insurance-companys-favor bluebook lol. If your car would be cheaper to fix than what they would give you to total it, then they just pay to fix it, very simple. Anyway, if they let you fix it, Prices is recommended. They did an excelent job on my moms '06 Malibu after she was rear ended by a big ass Ram 3500. Good luck though, its a shame if they total it, beautiful mustang

Ya, But im really hoping it gets totalled out. Just for the fact that i didnt pay for a broken repaired car so i dont want to be driving in one. I mean now if its not totalled then when i go to sell it. It will scare off potential buyers when the carfax comes back all jacked up.

every time I've had a totaled vehicle they have given me a fair market value. they usually don't go by blue book from what I'm told. My tsi I got about 4k for and most of the cars they found to determine my cars value were na and the turbo models were selling for alot more than they gave me. good luck

Im-sorry-your-car-is-not-worth-nearly-what-you-think-it-is bluebook value

insurance companys use nada and kelly and come up with a happy median, it just depends on the company. I would say he could get 4k out of that mustang...if its a v6 like i think it is

also unless u have custom equipment coverage anythin thats not factory does not go tword the value. SO you can have a 2K actual value car w/ a 2.5K set of wheels and tires but w/o that coverage if you total it you get 2k.

Ya actaully i just got back from the body shop and got all my aftermarket junk and replaced it with stock stuff. I don't think i have coverage for aftermarket junk and even if i did they would not have given me what i paid for in it.

No insurance company will cover aftermarket parts unless you have some sort of custom insurance. If the repair exceeds 70% value of the car it will be considered totaled. As far as how much that will depend on the insurance company. It varies from company to company. Ill have to ask my mom about that she's a liscensed insurance agent been in the business for 30+ yrs.

Not true. When my RSX was totaled they gave me money for every aftermarket part on it. When I also got in a smaller accident they replaced the aftermarket part instead of the OEM one. It's actually cheaper for them since most aftermarket parts are cheaper.

true. its called customized equipment coverage. receipt documentation is not required but recommended.

not totally true. They do whats cheaper, getting it fixed, or totaling.

6k damage on a 5k car = totaled

4k damage on a 5k car = fixable

however the company's do deals if the value/damage ratio is close.
totaled cars are then sold for salvage
