oily sludge substance!?!??? :S

so im puzzled....

i pulled my head the other day, to find a black oil/tarry substance on 3 of the four pistons, the engine has less than 1k on it since the complete overhaul,

the one piston that didnt have the oily substance on it looked brand spanking new!

any ideas what might of caused the oily substance?

i pulled the head due to a overheating issue and found that the HG was blown out the front of the block and heres a pic of the valves.

HG was leaking from cylinder 2 (in both pics 2nd from the right)

coolant and oil were seeping down the block.
