I still want dibs on the gunner seat in the zombie apocalypse...

I want to find a old truck to do something similar. With something bad ass in the bad. Like a cannon.

So I've been putting the electric off since I got this......yesterday I spent over 10 hours working on it. Went from this:

To this:

Before that however I took my little buddy for a ride, first time and he absolutely loved it. He usually isn't much for car rides but I guess this was different for him. I totally bought him a set of Doogles.

I've been having a bit of a hopping issue and some noise from the rear so I took it all apart and found the bearings on one side were shot, took a near act of god to get one of them out. I ended up shattering it and sent bits flying all over the garage.

New ones are on the way. Hope I can have everything back together before Bug-A-Paluza.

Got the new bearings packed and installed and slapped the stub axles in

Used two tubs of grease and about 30 pairs of gloves but got the cvs cleaned up and packed

All installed with new hardware

Also took a few minutes to finish up the dash, had the wife paint me a kill switch, installed a push button start to replace my failed ignition switch and a wee little LCD monitor...... For reasons

So I wrapped some wire around the rear pop out windows for kicks and grins as well as the headlights

So, I've been holding off on this but it's nearly done so I'll go ahead and show off.
A buddy of mine used to work in a scrap yard and came across an 2000-2005 model Cadillac Deville ready for the crusher. Now he knew enough to know these cars came with a FLIR thermal camera for a night vision heads up display..... Was supposed to alert drivers to hazards before they were in the headlights. He yanked the unit out for me. I coupled it with a Hong Kong 4.3" display because that is really about all the resolution it had anyway.

So...... I have thermal night vision on my Doomsday Beetle.

Got it all permanent

So I've known this due to having used FLIR in the military...... It really sucks when everything is the same temperature..... Like on a day where cold rain has been falling all day like today, ha.

I drove it 127 miles to Bug-A-Paluza 17 in East Ridge over the weekend. I am very surprised it did so well. I kept it at 60mph pretty much the whole trip. Past 60 though it started to bounce, something needs balanced.

First day was great:

Thermal Camera worked great once things heated up:

Didn't win anything (surprise?) and day 2 was a complete wash out with some pretty terrible rain. I towed it home instead of driving.
