so im debating on swapping a ca18det in my 40.
the combo of iron block and aluminum head are killer.
they can rev past 7k in stock form.
stock the put out 175hp.
but with a turbo upgrade, fmic, injectors and a tune ive seen them arroung 350whp.
so im debating.....what do yall think??
they are like 4cly versions of the rb

stock like 1100 i can get one.
and then the upgrades hmmm...good ones (only ones i would buy) would arround another 1k
also those fuckers produce big torque
doesnt sound bad at all.

one of my friends has a 96 240 we just swapped with a rb20...it ran him like 1800 for it all.

i say do it.

i like them cause not many people even know about them.
ive heard of them but didnt know anything about them really lol.

it would be different than everyone elts.
just do the rb26 swap :D
If you can find a good one that cheap, it will be fine. I'm a little doubtful of one for $1100 being good, though. Parts are far more scarce than SR's, and you have to remember that the newest ones of the motors are nearly 20 years old. You'll likely need to rebuild it, regardless of the claimed mileage. They are a pretty good motor, though. The stock short block won't handle quite as much power as the SR, and the "big torque" comment...not really. It's an only slightly undersquare 1.8L engine (83mm bore, 83.6mm stroke). It's not exactly a recipe for heaps of low-RPM power. It's still a fun motor, but you'll have to rev it to get good power.

The best engine swap reason EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had one in my 93. Always had some kind of troble with it. Either CAM sensor or firing problems. It was
more like a DSM. Yes I went there!! LOL. Good for a solid 300hp easy not much more than that though.
Ever thought of a GM/Ford V8 swap? It's moderately cheap...and you can make big numbers easily.

No it isn't. Stop trying to spread information, when you have no experience with it. It's only cheap if you are good at fabrication, and you don't care about everything working and fitting together well.
Do it.
Show some people something they can do besides SR's and RB's.
While keeping it Nissan.

Yeah if you feel like hacking the shit out of your engine bay to fit said V8.

If you can fit a VG30DETT into a 240SX, you can fit anything into a 240SX...

Lets go over reading comprehension.

V8.

When was a VG brought up?

Honestly I'd rather SPEND THE MONEY to do a V8 than mess with a VG.
1100 for a ca18det=( no way,and like you said no1 had a ca18det,so part well be high when you do found it.
and my friend got his rb20det for 1200 with tranny and ecu,and it got way more "big torque" then a ca18det

but what ever you try g/l
Have you ever seen a VG30DETT?

The heads themselves are the size of a small city.

They've been put into 240SX's before without "hacking up the engine bay".
Therefore, a SBC or 302 V8 should fit with no problem.

But, If you were to V8 it, I would have to say keep it Nissan. VH45 or something.

I may have no experience with it...but it sure as hell has been done time and time again. The "moderately cheap" part was referring to the power it can make. OP wants around 350ish...that's easy to do with a 302 or LSX.
