Get ready for a dumb question as I never really looked into modifying a 240 .
I see a lot of people replace the engines with sr's , why not just build the KA24DE I mean it also duel cak and it has the bigger stroke wouldn't it just make sense.

There is a lot of people that does build the KA. Honestly it all depends on what you like. I love ka-t. I liked my SR when I had it and I love the sound of RB's.

The issue with stock Ka's is the pistons are super weak I blew up my first KA-T built in two days so I know. I just really like SR's Ive worked on so many of them that I know the engines and platform well. RB's sound good, but weight distribution and working on them is a bitch.

Sorry to hear that the RB didn't work out for you. Looking forward to seeing more updates on the SR.
Thanks man, I saw your car on the Facebook Tennspeed page and I must say I'm very impressed. BTW, I grew up in Farragut and live just down the road now

Oh cool. Yeah, that's where my parents live. I only lived there for 6 months a few years back after the Army but I really loved it there. I'll be up there in a little over 2 weeks to visit dealerships and decide where to go. Wouldn't mind staying in Farragut as long as I get a good offer from them. Feel free to friend me on FB.

like what everyone else said its all about what you like and what you want to build. my first 240 i did a ka-t build and loved it. Sr is a good engine and can be better lasting than a ka.But its all want you want.

I figured I should update this thread. I just ordered a shit load of parts for it,

ATI gauge pod
Megan Racing short shifter
AEM digital boost gauge
AEM wideband
Circuit Sports motor mounts and transmission mounts
Wiring specialties Engine and trans harness
FR500's
HKS 272's
and I still have to order valve springs.

I also installed extended wheel studs without spending big bucks. I had to change the thread pitch but I was able to get an extra 3/4 of an inch per stud I'll post the Dorman part numbers if anyone is interested.

I installed everything, but the car still wont run. I have tried a new ECU my next step will be an ignitor chip. My plan before I do any of that is to order a dual valve spring set up and pull the head and install everything. It appears as the intake cam is one tooth off as it is now so I need to fix that anyway.

Just because it has a longer stroke doesn't make it a more efficient engine.

True, SR's are square motors and by that I mean 86mm bore 86mm stroke, KA's are technically stroker motors from the factory, the problem with KA's is the stock pistons are super weak, they break ringlands without a turbo, add turbo to a stock motor, break all the things.

Almost all manufacturer's will use a shitty piston behind their forged cranks/rods, VG30s, mod-motors, 1uz-fe etc. They would get raped on warranted work. It's easier to replace a burnt piston than to replace a whole motor with a rod through the block.

Been a while since I updated this thread. So recently the thermostat stuck and because I was a moron and didnt realize thats what happened, the head is either warped or the head gasket is blown (not likely because of ARP head studs and cometic headgasket). So couple that with me having a pile of parts laying around, I will hopefully be pulling the motor apart this weekend and installing all my new goodies :). Spec sheet on the long block is as follows, bottom end was done by PO.

Red Top SR20DET

New OEM crankshaft
ACL Rod and Main bearings
Eagle H-Beam rods
Wiseco 87mm bore pistons
Cosworth Headgasket 87mm bore 1.5mm thick
ARP Head studs
HKS 272 cams
Brian Crower valve springs and retainers
Tomei Solid lifters
Brian Crower stainless intake and exhaust valves
ISIS rocker arm stoppers

Ill be having the head decked and hopefully have the motor back together at the beginning of next week sometime. It will remain fairly stock for a while until I order a turbo manifold and wastegate and EMS. Once all those things are ordered going to aim for 500whp

Okay so update time, pulled the head to find out what the deal with the head was. Pulled head and found what appeared to have been the head gasket letting go in between cylinder 2-3. In addition found two cracks in the head. So ended up having to buy another head. Just got it back today and it looks amazing big props to Claxton Machine Shop
