Turbo vert drift build...

So for the past 3 years I drifted my mostly stock RX8 and really got confident behind the wheel, really learning how to actually drift.

Ive always wanted to boost the 8 but on my budget thats just not gonna happen, so I sold my DD subaru, and for the same money it would have costed me to boost my 8 leaving me without a DD I just went ahead and bought my buddies vert he was selling that was listed on here for a while.

Motor is Jspec S5 T2, with t2 trans and driveshaft, haltech sprint re, aeromotive fpr, ID 1000cc injectors, both primary and secondary, FD fuel pump, full turbo back racing beat exhaust, among other tasteful mods. it made decent power id say considering the setup, defiantly a lot more than what I am used to with the gutless renisis! haha

since Ive had it I have installed corksport SS oil cooler lines since the oem ones were old and leaky, comp diff bushings, stop washer bushings, front diff mount, and pinion snubber, along with weld the N/A diff since I sold my KAZZ 2 way that I was going to put in the 8 to fund this little build up, the welded should still be a good upgrade from what I am used to with the stock LSD in the 8.

after the diff and bushings were all put back in I took out the AGX struts and ground control coil over sleeves and put in a set of stance SS + coils.

and after all that heres how it sits now.... pretty much looks exactly the same as when I started! lol

In a few hours Im gonna make a bracket to mount my sparco evo in there as well as roll and pull the fenders to fit up some wheels I got here for it, then in 3 days going to shake it down at an event in KY.

future plans include, modded knuckles, BNR turbo, rad, fans, and hack out the huge racing beat muffler in the down pipe.. for a catless rotary this thing sounds stock! lol as well as some cool shit like aero, nicer wheels than what I am about to throw on there, and full cage.
Ill update either tomorrow or the day after once the seat and wheels are on!

I went fast this weekend.... it was awesome! 90+MPH entries all day untill I broke some stuff.....lol well worth it!

the car will be down for a while. the damaged list is as follows.
Fried clutch
Blown up T2 lip ( a field jumped in front of me out of no where)
potentially bent shifter fork ( lost 5th and reverse somehow)
the motor was breaking up BAD towards the end of the day. ( I think it was fuel starve... not sure why)
somewhow developed a MASSIVE exhaust leak.
and im pretty sure even with a pinion snubber and a brand new front diff mount that I broke it. got teriible wheel hop and driveline shutter halfway through the day. ready to teardown and rebuild! im driving again in november so I have a litlle bit of time to fix everything.

was finnally able to get some work done yesterday. pulled the trans and found this....

pulling the flywheel as soon as I get a 54mm socket and getting it resurfaced. exedy 3 puck from the rx8 is going in to replace the act garbage. hopefully tonight Ill have time to take the trans apart and figure out my shifter issue. if anyone on here knows a thing or two about T2 tranmissions I would GREATLY apreciate some insight. I cant engage 5th or reverse. from what Ive read its a fairly commin issue but I havnt found a way to resolve it...

Is the shifter locked from pulling all the way to the right?
I honestly dont know. even after taking the shifter out and making double sure there was nothing left in there like old bits of bushings it wont go into 5th or reverse.
for real tho I will pay someone to check out this trans... id rather pay someone to do it right than to F it up by trying myself...
got a bit more done today... this job sucked and im covered in fiberglass dust. not fun.

on the plus side my hood actually fits now! SUPER stoked on how well it lines up now

They are far from perfect but im really happy with the way they turned out considering ive never done anything like this before.

also got the flywheel back last week and it looks MUCH better. $20 at TN clutch. cant go wrong with that!

i saw you ringing it's fucking neck out there. nice.

any video of the red miata slamming the wall?
well sort of, my go pro was unning when he hit but you cant really see anything because I was all the way at the start line. that was my good buddy John and that was his first event ever sadly. the car overheated on the way home and it was left on the side of 65 untill this afternoon when he got a trailer to pick it up. should be back up and running for next season though
we saw it on our way home sitting there. that sucks. you could tell it was a daily driver. and that he had no clue what he was doing.
are u not doing any mods or tinkering with it any during the off season?
I definitely am working on it this off season. lol mainly getting the cage put in and painting some stuff. also gonna re work the exhaust, and finnish replacing all the old suspension bushings. I am also strongly considering putting a T2 diff and axles in it so I can romp on the car up at the dragon as well. welded diff + 129 would be scary as hell
ah ok, from your FB post it looked like you was gonna wash it and put it away till next season.

you decide whos doing the cage and exhaust?

exhaust yes. cage, not sure just yet. gonna shop around for prices a little bit when the time comes. still kind of on the fence about what color to paint the interior though. Im leaning more and more towards keeping it black. I think it would look pretty cool to have a black vert with a black cage.
picked up a passenger seat the other day.
