Ok so here is whats going on. I have a buddy(call him buddy A) that i went to high school with that left his sound system for his car(2 subs/box/amp) at my house the beggining of our senior year(05-06) Ok so it stays in the garage.....fast forward to two months ago.(btw this whole time i have been telling Buddy A to come get his stuff) I had a buddy(buddy B) that helps me work on my car alot use the stuff to put in his truck. Fast forward to last week: my buddies truck catchs fire and burns to the ground w/ all the sound equipment in it....so today Buddy A calls me and tells me he wants his stuff by the end of the day. So i tell him the whole story about what happened and he flips out and tells me that i owe him $300 bucks(even tho the guy he is sellin it to is paying $180???) so i talked with some ppl including a lawyer and apparently after 90 days it becomes abandoned property and by law it was mine anyways.(legally) because he was not paying storage fees.

::Cliff Notes::^^^
guy leaves stuff at my house for 3 years
i tell guy to come get for 3 years
stuff burns in fire
guy suddenly wants his stuff back
guy tells me i owe him money

BTW: in case it matters its 2 OLD 10" kicker cvr's, a kenwood 800w amp, and a thin box for the subs.

so what i wanna know is what would you do?
should i say screw it you should have come gotten the stuff?
or should i replace it w/ = value audio components
i just wanna do the right thing
what would you do???

Personally, I'd tell him to fuck off.

If he's a good friend, then maybe offer to split the cost of it with him or something. Of course, if he was a good friend would he be hassling you for more than he was going to sell it for?

thats kinda what i was thinking

i was like dude seriously you can get that stuff at a pawn shoop for like 30 bucks
he needs to chill
if he's a good friend, you should talk to the guy w/ the truck and try to get him to chip in for the $180 (but not 300, if he was selling it to someone for 180) ... otherwise tell him that its legally yours after 90 days, so theres nothing he can do about it
Law says it was yours. Friendship says it was his. You were telling him to come get it for 3 years. His refusal to tells me he didn't want it. Stuff depreciates in value. it's not worth $300. Insurance wouldn't value it at $300. it's worth no more than insurance would say it's worth.

I agree with hover... fuck him. You're not a storage facility.
basically what venom said
what kind of friend you got,my nikka wouldn't care if it catch on fire,as long as i dont sale it.
My coworker had a great idea. Pay him the $300. and write him a storage bill for $300. and say "Hey, well here's $300 right there!" and walk away.
Actually, I agree with Venom somewhat. I wouldn't ask the guy whose truck just burned to throw in the whole $180, but maybe part of it. IDK, that seems kind of cruel. But, another question to pose is, did you tell him that the equipment actually belonged to ape-poop-head? If so, then he knows it wasn't his or yours, and should be returned whenever need be.

If the guy who "owned" it left it at your house for 3 years, it obviously wasn't that important.

Perhaps tell him that you will have all the money for him in 3 years, and mail him 16 cents a day. Sure it might cost you some money in stamps, but it would just about be worth it. Or you could just paypal him. The fees would hurt him there. lol, I'm an evil bastard I know.

edit: spelling
Fuck him - you owe him nothing. This is how it always is with people who are chronic procrastinators - they don't want to do anything about a situation until it's THEIR convenience, then all of a sudden you need to drop what you're doing and get in line when they say so. Fuck that - most of my customer base is like that - I don't give them their way.

Clever, but kind of a smart ass thing to do, wouldn't you say?

it really is yours though. if you guys are really great friends, maybe toss him a little cash and just say "Sorry. You left it here forever. I'm giving you something because we're bros."

But ultimately, it is yours.

the lawyer that works im my office said the same thing
except she said do it by average storage costs which is like 50 a month
then he would owe me 50 bucks a month
for three years and we would be more then happy
to pay his 300 dollars
haha
i agree with the majority here...you don't owe him shit...

you held on to it for him for that long, that's a favor on it's own.

sure it sucks his stuff is gone, but he's had sooooo damn long to get it out!

in a way...it's his own damn fault.

but all in all, you don't owe him a dime. just my 2 cents (canadian).

If your friendship is to the point of him to bitch over old property then it should be at the same point to where you cant say fuck it i dont owe you nothing.....
Be like i will by you a baconator which has a universal equivalence of $300

/thread
If hes a good friend give him 50$ and tell him its just because ur my friend u get this,
I have been tellin u for three years to come get this stuff and u put it off, I dont owe u
any thing by law but out of good nature take 50 bucks and call it over.
i say build your stang. and quit gettin beat by talons? lol jp but i would tell dude F OFF he shoulda got it earlier
screw the guy and push his car out of the garage and into the street then call him and tell him he needs to get it before the city does. then hang up the phone and call about an abandon vehicle in front of your house. and oh yeah take everything else of value out of it and post it on here for sell to make the 180 back to give him . man i hate asshole friends.lol goodluck
IF ANYTHING HE OWES YOU SCREW AND TELL HIM IF HE WAS A REAL FRIEND HE WOULD HAVE DONE WHAT YOU ASKED AND PICKED UP THE STUFF.

haha that thing was quick
if i had the bottle it would have been OV
friends dont leave you stuff to store. call me a dick but a friend of mine dumped a rusty ass 240 shell on my for 7 months, after 6 months of telling him its going to the yard and several excuses later i crushed with a bobcat. you dont just dump things on people for 3 years and expect it back. just tell him what the lawyer said
