Just like the title says, Where would I buy the wood
I need to make a custom sub box.

Does it have to be special or can I get it from Home depot?

I bought a sub and amp so I'm going to be making the box.

Just let me know,

Thanks!

cant just use any type of wood if you want it to sound good, but home depot has what you need ... been there, done that, bought the t-shirt

if youve never done it before, youll get a nice-looking box if you put the time into it but youll never get great sound (quality or volume) out of it unless you run through all the stupid calculations [google it if u dont know what im talking about]

best of luck!

Well what Kind of wood is it?

Also, I need to figure out the Cubic feet the box needs to be.
Then I can figure out how I'll make it to fit into my car,

Here are a few setups I like, these are all 2G custom sub setups...

I know the box has to be sealed for the sub I bought...
It's a sony 1300W peak and 380rms sub and a Sony 800w 1/2 amp.
Not matched that great but I got them brand new for half off at a closing circuit city
and that was all they had left so i got em.

I liked these.. Trying to save some trunk space....

I know this one is fiberglass, But something along these lines only wood.
Nothing huge, leaving space for everyday stuff in the trunk...

Amp is going in either the spare tire area since I cant use the spare even if I had to...
either there or the back seat flip... (the most common place)

you need to buy mdf wood for your box. last i checked it was like 28 dollars for a 4x6 sheet. and if you go to rockfordfasgates website and use there box wizard program and put in deminsions till you get it at the right airspace. plus if the air space aint right our atleast close the sub wont have nearly the right amount of potential as it could.

Sounds like I'd be better off just paying $22 for the last one they have at circuit city...
a 4x6 is only enuf to do a One Cubic ft box... and for $28 I'm going to need prolly 2 atleast....

the single 12 I showed above has a pretty easy design... you can see the sides are just extra wood and it's the center
section that has the sub enclosure...

i'll put it this way. if you dont know what youre doing, and have never done this before. chances are you're gonna fuck up. mdf wood is what you'll want. but just building a sub and throwing some carpet overtop of it isn't gonna achieve quality results from your sub. things i'd recommend doing:
1. glue the boards together before screwing them. this helps seal off the wood to keep any small amounts of air from escaping.
2. one the box is assembled, bead the cracks with silicone. again, helps seal off the wood.
3. brush on fiberglass resin over the whole box.i inside and out. Again. helps seal off the wood.
4. instead of using those back connector plates, drill a hole just big enough to run the correct size wiring into the box about a inch away from a corner, once you have enough cable in there tie a knot on one side, and put silicone around the hole. do this for both sides.

all these steps will increase the density of your box and thus help more soundwaves come out of the box. and if you plan on building a custom enclosure to save space, if you dont know what your doing, and have never layed fg before, then you can forget about that idea lol

Yeah I had to seal the box I bought that was premade. Had to go in and caulk each line where the wood met each other.

Thanks, I think I'll prolly just buy a pre made box and made a custom floorbloard for my
trunk and go that way.

make your trunkboard out of 1/2 in mdf, and seal it. i made a 4 piece trunkboard for my old accord. and the new owner (hondamonster) loves it. itll hold more than enough weight for a trunkboard
