Why is my car overheating?

1777 Views 26 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  zenkilove
Ok so at 70mph with the A/C on, myu car starts running hot. If you turn the A/C off, it will start to cool off.. This is only at 70mph.. The temp fluctuates with the RPMs sometimes. If I clutch it and let the car go to idle, it will cool off.

I can drive all day long doing 55 and it will not run over normal.

Any ideas?

Waterpump works
Both fans work correctly
New temp sensor
New thermostat (working)

Could it be possible that the radiator is messed up? My stock radiator has a smaller top outlet than what is on the engine.. Could that be a problem?

This is on a 90 Civic Wagon (same as ef) with B16a swap.

it's possible. What kind of temps are we looking at? How high does it get.

It really sounds like a old/clogged radiator to me.

www.radiatorbarn.com for cheap replacements.
nope.
sound like you are missing your air dam under your car.
it will make your car overheat at high speeds only.
I will be awaiting the conclusion my friend.
If this happens only when your a/c is on check your aux fan.. Is it running when the a/c comes on??? As far as anything else just bleed the system really good and make sure your thermostat is good and also i would go ahead and replace the radiator.
yeah im with chromesilver... sounds like your a/c fan isnt turning on or is malfunctioning somehow.. and all the other stuff ppl said could work too
your problem is it's a honda

but seriously good luck
And for the record there are some hondas I like not many though

Anything above 40-45mph, the fan/fans are moot.
have you tried flushing your system?
its a hard problem to diagnose, but somethings preventing the car from cooling off. id try flushing the system, if thats no the case and if you've replaced the water pump, you maybe might be creating cavitation by the water pump. i highly doubt it but it can happen if the pump gear is over sized or something is in the way preventing a smooth flow
^^^ flush the coolant system with toilet bowl cleaner.
